Learn How To Cure Sleep Apnea

Snoring Remedy

Do you have a snoring problem? If your answer is yes then you should consider device known as a snore relief mouthpiece. These devices will help to combat and possibly eliminate your snoring condition. Here I will discuss the options that you have to help you make the best choice.

When you ready to buy a snoring relief mouthpiece you will be presented with many options. The type of mouthpiece will depend on how you actually sleep in bed. For some people a regular snoring device might not be the right fit. They may consider a custom one that their dentist can recommend for them. Another option is to visit your local retailer to find a cheap alternative.

The way these devices work is that they enable a clear passage of air to pass through your throat. This is achieved by not allowing your tongue to come in the way. It will also adjust your bottom jaw to go forward which will let you take in air through your nasal activity and not your mouth. There have been many studies done that show these devices work very well for snoring. Some have even been able to assist those that have certain forms of sleep apnea.

Although you can obtain these snoring relief mouthpieces from your local pharmacy or drugstore, you should initially discuss your condition with your physician. They will be able to treat and diagnose your snoring problem effectively. You will then be able to find the right device that will help you control your snoring problem.

    snoring remedy?
can anyone out there help me what is the best remedy to stop
snoring my wife is giving me night in hell

    • ANSWER:
ihee's answer is reasonable, forget the others. snoring is not dangerous, and is not a sign of sleep apnea. sleep apnea is a legitimate diagnosis, either soft tissue related, or neurological.
one can have sleep apnea and not snore or have and snore. snoring can sometimes involve soft tissue of the throat, uvula, tongue, or tonsils, but does not mean you have sleep apnea.

to properly diagnose sleep apnea one needs a certified sleep apnea study. to diagnose snoring listen to your partner. few remedies actually cure snoring, while sleep apnea can be treated in a variety of successful ways, CPAP/BiPAP being very common. the confusion is that when CPAP treats sleep apnea it also takes care of snoring, but most often doctors do not prescribe CPAP for snoring, sort of like providing full scale surgery for a cut on your finger.

try all sorts of home remedies offered and maybe you'll come upon something that works for you. personally i am going to try the menthol in my nose, and the tape strips on the bridge of my nose.

  11. QUESTION:
is there a remedy for my dogs snoring?
I have a 1 yr old beagle who snores. she used to sleep in the same room with me but it was so loud that i have to put her in another room at night which she hates. any suggestions for stopping or lessening her snoring?

    • ANSWER:
Beagles as a =Breed= are not commonly snorers - which leads me to Q what makes Ur Beagle different from the average.

      ** is she FAT?
overweight = Is = a common Beagle- problem; they've never met a food or anything resembling food, that they didn't like!

look at Ur dog FROM THE SIDE, at about Ur own waist-height; put her on a bench, table, or stairs-landing, so U can get a good look at her whole-body profile.

she SHOULD have a chest that is not more than 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch >>deeper << than the point of her elbow - CLUE: if U can't find the point of her elbow, she is morbidly obese, and her vet should be publicly spanked for letting her get so desperately out of any shape!!

she should have no fat-pad on her chest: it shoud be muscle from upper foreleg across to the other upper foreleg. if there's a wad of loose flesh U can pick up in Ur palm and 'heft', she's way too hefty!

her ribs should not QUITE be visible; they should be just barely seen, as a smooth Xylophone-shape, under a thin layer of MUSCLE. they should be readily PALPABLE: light pressure from Ur fingertips should be enuf to locate each rib. there should be a smooth flat bone, and a narrow 'dip' between it and the next rib. Beagles are smooth-coated, so the ribs should be 'ribbier' in appearance than on a furrier dog, like a GSD or Samoyed.

her BELLY: still looking from the side, at the end of her ribs U should see a smooth line in a curve upwards - that's the underside of her 'waist'. it shouldn't be as exaggerated as a wasp-waist, but she shouldn't resemble a length of pipe (straight line), let alone HANGING Flesh, where the abdomen sags with suet!!

      From Above:

again, put her on a flat surface, and look straight down, from her butt forwards:

her shoulders should be the W I D E S T part of her body, her neck should taper toward her head, her ribs should be narrower than her shoulders, her butt only slightly wider than her ribs at their midpoint. (the widest girth of her ribs should be just behind her elbow- they should taper behind that point to her waist.)

she should have a DISTINCT 'waist': behind her ribs, in front of her hindquarters, there should be a neat little tuck on either side, like parentheses: ) (
her waist should be in proportion to her overall size: not scrawny, but athletic and tight. it's about one and one-third the size of her NECK...
assuming, of course, that her NECK is not fat!!

again from the side, there should be a smooth curve where her rump turns down beside her tail, and forms the back of her upper thigh: )~
if she has a SQUARED-OFF butt when U look from above, '--,--' that's a fat-blanket; i've seen dogs so fat that it looked as tho U could pick up that puckered quilt at the edge, and just peel it off their bodies.

unfortunately, it's not that easy: dogs are even Better!! than humans at maintaining their weight. U have to BOTH decrease calories >In, AND Increase calories

IOW, cut back on food, AND get more exercise.
exercise must be taken with the dog's fitness level always in consideration: U cannot JOG a fat dog on hard surfaces!! a ruptured ACL will not help the dog lose weight.

start out walking further; then walk faster. then walk Both! further AND Faster. Then and only then, JOg the Dog - After the VET says it's Okay, and after weight-loss and some conditioning. And always jog with the dog on a soft surface: U can be on paving, the dog needs the shoulder, grass, sand, what have U.

      ================================

if she's not Fat - then what?
my next guess is stenotic nares: that's what we call nostrils in humans.
well-shaped nares in a dog should look like fat commas, upside-down:
the little tails point up and out from the center, the fat black DOTS are the nice round nostrils.

for good examples of stenotic nares, which look like SLOTS, up and down, instead of nice plump round dots, look at any Boston Terrierist, Pug, Eng Mastiff, or other brachycephalic breed. those are the 'squashed-face' breeds, and they DO Snore - precisely because their sinuses are accordioned up under their eyes, their nares are restricted, and the sinuses behind those nares are also way too narrow.

as a result, they are at extreme risk of heat-stress, or heat-stroke, as compared to 'more normal' dogs with longer muzzles, more sinus, and open nostrils.

solution to stenotic nares: surgery; one-time, permanent fix.

      THIRD possibility:
her soft-palate is too long, and occludes her airway when she relaxes into sleep.
when awake, she has enuf muscle-tension to keep the tissue retracted, at least part of the way; unconscious, it relaxes and blocks the throat.

fix-it: surgery; pretty simple, she gets better rest, and so does everyone else!

      hope this helps!

BTW: crate-training can help with her separation-distress, even at night. a 'bedroom' of ehr very own keeps her calmer, gives her setback from the door (where she might scratch, whine, etc), and gives her a very predictable routine.

once she's not snoring anymore, U can move the crate and Ur Beagle into Ur bedroom at nite; use a fiberglass shipping crate, NOT ! a wire 'show' crate; they are prettier, but less private, less comforting, and less SAFE if U need them to evacuate, keep her at a relative's house, transport or ship her, etc.

shipping crates are also handy for storing her leash ON THE ROOF of the crate:
in an emergency, U know exactly where the dog is, where her gear is, and can grab them in a hurry and get outta Dodge.

      How to stop snoring

Snoring can often seem like a problem without a solution – especially when it is getting in the way of a good night’s sleep for you and your partner. If you want to stop snoring, it is important to consider the cause and severity of your snoring. Identifying the cause can help you choose the right cure.

It also makes sense to try some simple non-invasive treatments first to see if they will reduce or prevent your snoring. See the section on Self help tips and remedies below for more information on these snoring cures.

      * Sleep on your side
      * Elevate the head of your bed
      * Limit alcohol and medications
      * Clear your nasal passages
      * Lose weight

You may find that your snoring persists even after trying these changes. If your snoring results from a more serious cause, a cure may be more complex – but there are solutions. Your nights don’t have to be noisy! Read on to learn more about the possible causes of your snoring as well as treatment options. If you can uncover the cause of your snoring, you should be able to find a cure that is right for you.
      The causes of snoring
Where does the snore sound come from?

Snoring is caused by a narrowing of your airway, either from poor sleep posture or abnormalities of the soft tissues in your throat. A narrow airway gets in the way of smooth breathing and creates the sound of snoring.

People who snore often have too much throat and nasal tissue, or “floppy” tissue that is more prone to vibrate. The position of the tongue can also get in the way of smooth breathing. Evaluating how and when you snore will help you pinpoint whether the cause of your snoring is within your control or not. Enlist your sleep partner or keep a sleep diary to help you determine the possible cause of your snoring
Tip: The way you snore may reveal why you snore!

      If you snore

      * With your mouth closed: a problem with the tongue is probably the culprit
      * With your mouth open: your snoring is likely related to the tissues in your throat
      * Only on your back: your snoring is probably mild – improved sleep habits and lifestyle changes may be effective cures
      * In all sleep positions: your snoring is more severe and may require a more comprehensive treatment

Causes and Risk Factors of Snoring
Causes out of our control Causes within our control

      * Heredity - A narrow throat, a cleft palate, enlarged adenoids and other physical attributes which contribute to snoring can be hereditary.
      * Being middle-aged or beyond - As you age, your throat becomes narrower, and the muscle tone in your throat decreases.
      * Being male - Men have narrower air passages than women and are more likely to snore.
      * Allergies, asthma, a cold, or sinus infections - Blocked airways make inhalation difficult and create a vacuum in the throat, leading to snoring

      * Being overweight or out of shape - Fatty tissue and poor muscle tone contribute to snoring.
      * A history of smoking – Smoking (or exposure to second-hand smoke) relaxes muscles and creates nasal congestion.
      * Alcohol or medications - Alcohol and medications increase muscle relaxation leading to more snoring.
      * Sleeping posture - Sleeping flat on your back allows the flesh of your throat to relax and block the airway.

      Snoring problems and relationships

Snoring can get in the way of a good night’s sleep and a healthy relationship with your spouse or partner. Many couples affected by snoring resort to sleeping in separate bedrooms in order to get a good night’s sleep. This arrangement may help both people sleep better, but it can disrupt communication and intimacy.

Mild snoring that isn't related to sleep apnea responds well to home remedies. Finding a cure for your snoring problem can result in an improved quality of life for you and your loved ones.

  20. QUESTION:
how can i stop snoring or what is a remedy for strong snoring?

    • ANSWER:
the breathe right strips absolutely help as well as the snore away. the problem can be far more serious so the advice to go to a sleep clinic to be checked for sleep apnea is probably the best advice. however, i know that those types of solutions aren't always financially feasible. it is important to conquer your snoring as you may fail to wake up one morning when a big snore turns into your last breath.
the problem may be the flesh in the back of your throat when you're laying back the fleshiness from your front may meet the fleshiness from your back and result in snoring. weight loss is a possible solution to the problem. another solution could be as easy as chewing gum. chew a few pieces at once in fact. the great big chewing motions you'll have to use will strengthen the fleshiness and hopefully reduce the snoring.
remember the snoring may kill you but if you're content with some hubba bubba you can extend your life a few more nights.

  21. QUESTION:
    Any remedy for snoring?
Please respond if you know of any home remedy or over the counter cure for snoring.

    • ANSWER:
Well, my husband is what is called a "heroic" snorer, in which the snoring is so loud it can be heard in other rooms of the house.

"Because you tend to snore more when sleeping on your back, one useful technique is to try to keep from sleeping in that position. One way is to wear a pocket T-shirt backward with a tennis ball in the pocket. You will be less likely to sleep on your back because it is very uncomfortable to sleep on a tennis ball."

Try losing some weight. As little as 10 pounds might make the difference. Avoid alcohol, especially in the 4 hours before going to sleep. Avoid using sedatives and narcotic medications. Alcohol, sedatives, and narcotics cause relaxation of your throat muscles and increase the tendency for airway obstruction related to snoring.

Those should help. The Breath-Rite nasal strips should help. But, in our house, just having the snorer sleep in a different position does the trick!

Lots more info on snoring and treatment of snoring at site below. Hope that helps!

  25. QUESTION:
Whats the best remedy for to reduce or stop snoring ?

    • ANSWER:
Snoring is a mild obstruction of the upper airway which is caused by the vibration of tissue against airflow. It can happen for a variety of reasons. Sometimes people have small airways to start with so it doesn't take much tissue to partially obstruct the airway and produce snoring. Sometimes it can be that the person has large tonsils that need to be removed. And most commonly it's related to excessive weight.

Loud snoring can be a sign of sleep apnea which is a potentially serious disorder which should be properly evaluated in a sleep disorders center. Quick fixes like "breathe right" strips or throat lubricants do little as a long term solution and just end up making the problem worse since it fails to address the cause of the snoring. Have the snoring evaluated at a sleep lab and they will find out what is causing it and suggest a treatment for it.

I am hearing complaints that i SNORE like thunder, air plane, train etc etc........ I feel bad for disturbing others that way..... I need any remedy for this.......

    • ANSWER:
Until you can get to the doctor for a sleep test, you might try "Breath Rights". This is an adhesive strip with plastic "braces" that you stick to the outside of your nose. They help to keep your nasal passages open to allow free movement of air. They are also used by some athletes to improve air flow while they are doing their jobs.

If you continue to snore, be sure to make that appointments with a doctor to make sure you don't have that sleep apnea.

      Good Luck

Snoring - Methods or Remedies To Stop or Minimise it?
Hi all out there. Any advice or remedies to stop or minimise snoring besides surgery, medication or devices?
    Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
      snoring is caused by obstruction

for years i often woke up in the middle of a sleep with my heart pounding and feeling like I was suffocating, which I was and chest pain and sometimes severe headache I'm lucky i didn't have a stroke

for me I also didn't want devices, meds or surgery

keep your airway straight when you sleep this means do not use a pillow more than about two inches thick never have your head proped up on a pillow no matter if you are sleeping on your side or back

avoid sleeping on your back, sleep on your side with a thin pillow and tuck your chin up to make your airway open and in time it will become a habit in your sleep as well

don't wear anything around your neck that is tight or even close to tight

keep the temperature cool and use a cool mist ultrasonic humidifyer if needed

also brush your teeth and gums and tongue before going to bed makeing sure your mouth is good and clean

don't take sleeping pills or antihistimes before going to bed

do use your prescription inhalers as prescribed when I told my doctor the albuterol helped me more taken right before bed he prescribed it that way

if your mouth is really dry use a saliva substitue they are over the counter and you have to just try each one finding which one is the best for you

don't smoke and if you do don't smoke at least four hours before bed

if you have GERD make sure you are taking care of it well by not eating at least 4 hours before bed and taking any meds prescribed for your GERD

GERD makes apnea worse and apnea makes GERD worse

thin pillow, sleep on side, keep airway (throat) straight, room cool, mouth clean, no eating or drinking at least 4 hours before bed, no sleeping pills or antihistimes good luck

  39. QUESTION:
how to get a free remedy on stop snoring forever?

    • ANSWER:
Don't know about how free, but snoring is something that a lot of people do and its pretty harmless.

However, if you are having other issues like: sleepiness during the day, failure to concentrate, excessive snoring (you wake people up in other rooms), then its something that probably should be checked out by a physician.

Sleep apnea (*spelling*) is a serious condition with some pretty nasty long term effects on people.

Most stop snoring remedies available over the counter are pretty worthless in my opinion and dont really address the issue of why someone is snoring. There are lots of reasons but to correct any of them and feel confident you are going to be satisfied with results you need to see a doctor.

      Stop Snoring Tips

The following tips will hopefully give relief with snoring problems. It's important to remember that different remedies will have varying success depending on the individual.

1)…Elevate your head by sleeping on a thicker pillow or multiple pillows will help reduce your snoring.

2)…Don't drink alcoholic beverages, take sleeping pills, tranquilizers, or antihistamines right before going to sleep, they will cause your muscles to relax and limit your air passage way.

3)…Avoid dairy products, which can cause mucus build-up right before you go to sleep.

4)…If you are overweight, losing some weight will reduce snoring by increasing the space in your air passage way.

5)…Sleeping on your side instead of your back will help to prevent snoring.

6)…A common remedy to prevent sleeping on your back is to sew a tennis ball to the back of your shirt; the discomfort of sleeping on the ball will prevent you from staying on your back.

7)…Try following a regular sleep routine.

8)…Try taking in a little bit of honey before sleeping.

9)…Don't eat a big meal right before bed, if your stomach is full it will push up on your diaphragm and limit breathing passage ways.

10)...Avoid eating "rich" foods such as cakes, cookies, chocolate and pizza.

11)…Sleep on a firmer pillow, a pillow that's too soft encourages your throat muscles to relax and narrows your air passageway.

12)…Inhale steam before sleeping or sleep in a room with a humidifier turned on, which will reduce congestion and moisturize the throat.

13)…Purchase some nasal strips and put them on before going to sleep. Nasal strips will open up your nostrils and allow more air to come in, thus reduce snoring.

14)…If you are a smoker, stop smoking, if that is not feasible then avoid smoking right before you go to bed. Smoking causes inflammation and swelling of the throat.

15)…Take anti-snoring pills or use anti-snoring nasal spray.

16)…Consult a medical profesional if your snoring continues to adversely affect your sleep.

      Good Luck

Any good remedy for a snoring spouse?

    • ANSWER:
If the spouse if overweight (even just a little), losing weight will often cure snoring.

Also, most snoring happens when someone is lying on his/her back. So make a PJ top with a tennis ball sown in the back. That way the person will sleep on his/her side or stomach.

There are medical procedures to stiffen parts of the throat...see link for sleep apnea (really bad snoring) treatments.

  49. QUESTION:
Is there a home remedy for snoring?
My husband snores and while I wear earplugs it is just getting ridiculous. He can be obstinate so will not try products on the market so that would be a waste of my money. But if there was something free I could try that and if he refused I wouldn't be out of anything. Thank you.
Humble I appreciate that but now we live in one room and while we do have a sofa it is in earshot, lol.
I do sometimes lay a pillow gently on his face just to muffle the sound, but it can still be loud and then I also feel guilty.

    • ANSWER:
Just let him flip on his stomach. That will solve the whole issue.

What is the best over-the-counter snoring remedy I can get? What would be most reccomended?
