Learn How To Cure Sleep Apnea

Snoring Aids

When you suffer from really bad snoring you have to pay attention because severe snoring like this can be a sign of some other health issue. Not only that, even although you think you are getting a good night's sleep, in reality you aren't, because you aren't getting the correct sleep cycle.

It is also known that many couples sleep in separate rooms because of the problems associated with loud and constant snoring. Even worse, many actually split up over the heads of chronic snoring at night.

There are several ways to tackle your snoring problem. And one way is the use of stop snoring devices. Here are just 3 that many people have found to be effective...

1. Stop Snoring Mouthpieces

A stop snoring mouthpiece is placed in the mouth at night. They are very like gum-shields but work on the idea that snoring can be caused by your tongue slipping back into your throat and partially blocking your airway, causing snoring. They are used to prevent this.
These mouthpieces, when fitted into your mouth, are designed such that they maintain your lower jaw in its correct position, thus preventing your tongue falling back and causing a blockage. They are a very effective anti snoring device for many people with snoring difficulties.

2. Stop Snoring Pillows

Anti snore pillows are also very popular. They differ from ordinary pillows in that they are specially designed and constructed to realign your head, neck and spine into a more comfortable sleeping position that helps to keep the airways open.

There are some types of stop snoring pillows that are made to stop you sleeping on your back and force you onto your side. This is used where snorers most often sleep on their back. This is a bad position for snorers because, on the back, your jaw and your tongue drop back, causing airway blockage and thus snoring.

3. Lower Jaw Straps

Fitted before you go to bed, these lightweight strap devices hold you chin up and prevent it falling backwards so that your tongue doesn't constrict your airways. This helps to prevent the onset of snoring.

One of these snoring devices could be the answer to your snoring problems. The best way is to try one and see how it works for you. If that one doesn't work as well as you want, then try another type. It's worth persevering, especially if it means saving your relationship.

    Snoring remedies for men?
My wretched boyfriend keeps me awake at night with his snoring. It sounds like he is trying to suck the light fittings off the wall. I know very well that if he didn't drink in the evenings it wouldn't be as bad but he won't listen. Has anyone used anti-snore aids successfully? I was going to buy him some of those snore-strip things that stick onto your nose. Do they work? (Remedies have to be available in the UK)

As you can tell, I'm quite fed-up - so no sillyness please!

    Thanks :)

    • ANSWER:
Snoring can be caused by sinus or by soft tissues in the back of the throat.

Since he drinks that soft tissue relaxes more and he snores more loudly. He's a future candidate for Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

Nothing will help this but medical treatment. Strips won't make a difference since they work to open the sinus passages.

  10. QUESTION:
what is the best over the counter snoring aid that works?

    • ANSWER:
Breathe Right nasal strips might help, according to others that have tried them....

      http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=491695

      the downside..............they are pricey!!
about £6 for 10 or a little under £14 for 30 is what comes up on a g00gle search price wise. You could try shopping around but they are not likely to be significantly less expensive than that. Maybe in the near future they will become available on the NHS....you never know ;)

      Other tips:
Stop smoking if you are a somker ..............it is the best remedy yet for smokers snoring.

Go on a diet combined with a good exercise regime if you are chronically overweight.......being overweight has been linked to snoring.

Place a pillow or bolster behind your back to stop you rolling onto your back in the night....most snoring takes place when on your back in sleep.

Particularly if snoring wakes you, I also suggest you get a medical checkup to be sure it is just plain snoring and not a more serious condition known as sleep apnea.

  11. QUESTION:
Has anyone used the AVEO TSD anti-snoring aid w/success?

    • ANSWER:

Since I got on the machine, my life has changed completely.

  12. QUESTION:
Snoring issue, issues with sleeping with future husband?
I have an issue. My fiance and I like cannot sleep together. Like literally. I have stayed at his place a few times in the past and he has told me he didn't get 1 bit of sleep because I snore. I didn't even know that i did snore. He is a really light sleeper and I guess I sleep so deep that I have no awareness of my snoring, anyone else have this problem?? What did you do or are going to do.

By the way just because i know someone will suggest this, I have tried like every over the counter snoring aid out there "Breatheright, SnoreAlert, you name it...."

I have enlarged tonsils and i am pretty sure they are causing my snoring...my fear is I will have to have them removed. Is this the only way to stop my snoring? Are there any medications my doctor can prescribe to rid the snoring??

    • ANSWER:
Here are a few things for you to try:

Elevate your head by sleeping on a thicker pillow or multiple pillows will help reduce your snoring.

Avoid dairy products, which can cause mucus build-up right before you go to sleep.

Sleeping on your side instead of your back will help to prevent snoring.

Don't eat a big meal right before bed, if your stomach is full it will push up on your diaphragm and limit breathing passage ways.

Sleep on a firmer pillow, a pillow that's too soft encourages your throat muscles to relax and narrows your air passageway.

Inhale steam before sleeping or sleep in a room with a humidifier turned on, which will reduce congestion and moisturize the throat.

and, you can stop listening to the person above.
      He knows nothing.

  13. QUESTION:
    Sleep aid assistance for noise/snoring?
I cannot sleep with my boyfriend next to me, because he snores. Its not one of those rumbling ones, where it sounds like an oiking pig throughout the house. He has really heavy breathing that once in awhile can get louder and worse, while he sleeps. But I'm a very light sleeper when it comes to sound and light, so MOST things keep me up.

BUT FIRST, I've read everyone else's questions and answers. I'm not gonna throw a strip on his nose or make him see the dr, or beat him with a pillow.

I am asking, what is it that I can do to help my sleep? Is there a pill or something subtle I can take or do, to/for myself, so I can sleep through light noise?
Like tylenol PM or something similar to that? (Perscriptive drugs appreciated, but not convient for me at this time)

I would really appreciate any answers (that dont regard in change HIS habits) that are tips/guides for better my own sleep, not his.

(and please, i dont need 800 replys for "earplugs" because they dont work for me)

    • ANSWER:
I have read most of the answers to your questions and find them quite sensible although they do not REALLY get your point. There must be a reason you dont want to ask your partner to do anything. I suggest you try a herbal pill call Norturne. You can get it in Spain but I dont know if you can get it here. Youcan just get it over the counter. No prescription needed as it is a herbal pill. For me, it works like those prescribed sleeping pills, only it takes a longer time to fall asleep. Another safer pill is the Valerian pill or capsule made from the valerian root. It can be found in places like Guardian, Nature farm, and all the drug stores. This one works too.

  16. QUESTION:
How can I sleep through someone's snoring?
My boyfriend snores. I can't sleep when he does. I've tried earplugs, a fan next to the bed, and even a sleep aid. It's horrible and keeps me up all night. We've been together one year and get along great otherwise! But I can't sleep with him when I'm at his house and so I sleep in the guest room. We're talking about moving in together, but how on earth are we ever going to live together if we can't even sleep together?

    • ANSWER:
You have to sleep in the spare room or go mad. Thats it. The doctor idea is a reallly good one too. Pushing them a little in their sleep only works until you are nearly asleep and then it starts again making you insane.

  17. QUESTION:
Why do people wear band-aid over their noses?
I mean, in a lot of movies I see girls going to bed with a band aid over their noses. Is it to keep them from snoring or something?

    • ANSWER:
It probably isn't a band-aid. There is a springy thing that looks like a band-aid which helps to hold the nostrils open for better breathing.

Butch. I'm not sure which part of the point you missed. Glenn Beck's political rants caused these companies to boycott him. I've given two options for people to discuss. Ironically, the subject is freedom of speech and censorship.

    • ANSWER:
No. Their refusal to associate with controversial speech is also part of the free market. This happens when all widely available and watched media depends on corporate advertising

  19. QUESTION:
    Snoring....??? ARGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!?
Hi, well, here's the story... I have been with the Loved-one for 2 years. He's always been a snorer. I have tried everything. Earplugs (even the ones designed to block out snorers), which now hurt my ears too much, sleep aids which cant possibly be good for you, and various other methods of drowning him out. I was recently away for 6 weeks. Alone. And for the first time in 2 years had blissful uninterrupted sleep.

However, now that I'm back I cant possibly sleep next to him. It is driving me mental having to wake up and tell him to roll over, which never works anyway.

Now, I've always been the one trying different things (for TWO whole years!!!). How can I approach the subject of him now trying different things? (sprays, surgery, pillows, whatever... )Because I think it is going to ruin our relationship If i have to keep sleeping on the couch?

    Arggghhhhhhh!

    • ANSWER:
tell him that you're really concerned about his snoring, and suggest to him to see doctor. it could be a number of things, but it may be a sleep disorder called sleep apnea, which basically means that he stops breathing for a few seconds during the night because he's not getting enough air (that's what the snoring is from). I am also a heavy snorer, and I ended up being diagnosed with sleep apnea. it can be a dangerous condition if it's not treated. does he frequently feel tired during the day? does he wake up with headaches and dry mouths?

  20. QUESTION:
looking for Ideas for having trouble sleeping?
I buy over the counter sleep aid and it woks a littlle but still wake up here and there plus have some one snoring next to me trying snoring pills but don't seem to work to good.

    • ANSWER:
There are some great answers from the others to try. My advice is that sleep problems often are linked with anxiety so anything which helps to reduce anxiety before bedtime will help.

Remember we can only create anxiety by negative introspection (worrying about the past) and negative forecasting (worrying about the future), so avoid talking about problems with people before bed. Whenever we talk about bad things, then we have to imagine the scene in our minds. Now, the problem is that the subconscious mind can't tell the difference between imagination and reality so it produces the same stress hormones as though an event were really happening. You can prove this to yourself by monitoring your pulse before, during and after imagining a traumatic event. Because of this effect, avoid watching gritty TV dramas before bed.

Positive things you can do to help your sleep are:

Concentrate on your breathing while lying in bed. Make sure that your outbreath lasts longer than your inbreath. This creates a physiological response that will automatically relax you. Yoga makes great use of breathing techniques.

Have a warm bath directly before going to bed - this will lower your blood pressure temporarily by dilating blood vessels close to the skin surface.

Drink plenty of water during the day (about 2 litres) but don't drink anything an hour before bed (most of us wake up because our bladder is full!!)

Only burn incense if you find an incense that relaxes you! The sense of smell is the sense that is most closely linked to memory, therefore, what smells good to one person may make another physically sick!

Avoid stimuli such as lively music before bed. When a person having an anxiety attack is admitted to hospital via A&E they are generally put in a dark room on their own and receive no attention for several hours (this may sound cruel but because of the lack of stimuli, the subconscious perceives that the threat that it was reacting to must be over.)

Finally, try thinking of all the things that have made you laugh recently. This leads the mind into a positive cycle of thought patterns and, therefore, reduces anxiety. Incidently if ever one of your friends is depressed try encouraging them to remember happy occasions, you could be saving their life!!

  21. QUESTION:
Do you think bad snorers are selfish?
Right, I have always had a real problem with snoring, irritates me to hell, I can stand slight snoring, everyone does it, but I can't sleep if someone around me badly snores. Now I've just had someone move into my block (the room above me) and I can hear him snore. It is doing my head in and he's only been in 2 days. The fact I can hear it in the room below just shows he snores really bad. If your going to live in a house with other people, I personally think others shouldn't have to suffer it.

Now this is why I think very bad snorers are selfish. In this day and age there are enough things to stop snoring, sleeping aids, medication and even operations. Why should people suffer and have terrible nights sleep because of someone snoring. If you had someone playing loud music and it kept you awake you'd do something about it. What are your opinions?
I'm not grumpy, just like to sleep, when someone is snoring and you can hear it clearly in the room below, that person has issues.
I do understand it's not their fault, what I find selfish, is this person a fully grown adult will know they snore real bad, what is selfish is making others suffer the noise, especially when this can be sorted out pretty easily.

I've no issues about saying something, especially after no sleep because of his snoring lol :)

    • ANSWER:
Speaking as a snorer who was rated a 9 out of 10 on the loudness scale in a sleep lab, here's my take on the situation. The cause is essentially that loose tissue falls and blocks the airway during sleep. The result is that the person wakes up many many times during the night, never reaching the all important REM stage of sleep. The wakings are so brief in duration they don't know it occurred. The waking occurs when they choke or gasp from the blocked airway and/or fall out of bed when their muscles thrash (I was once a mass of bruises from this happening each and every night multiple times).

Severe sleep deprivation can have serious health consequences, even damage to the heart. If it's as bad as you describe he is almost certainly being affected during the day. Your neighbor probably has no idea the degree of the problem if he doesn't have a housemate or spouse to tell him. Try taping the snoring and play it for him. Tell him that you are concerned for his health and that he should go to a nearby sleep lab to be tested for obstructive sleep apnea. Using a CPAP (Continuous Positive Air Pressure) can change his life and yours. With a machine the size of a Kleenex box making a gentle whooshing sound he can stop the waking, choking, gasping, etc. and get a top quality REM sleep. With a few lucky types a device that holds your nostrils open or a mouth device that you put in at bedtime is sufficient. But for many severe snorers those do absolutely no good at all and a CPAP and/or surgery are needed. With the economy as it is, you cannot reasonably call someone selfish for not running out and getting thousands of dollars worth of surgery with time off work to recuperate, or for not running out and buying a 00 CPAP machine. Try some compassion and see if there are local resources that can help him get what he needs.

In my case, the morning following my first night with the CPAP I was more alert than I'd been in months. My mind was clearer and I was not literally falling asleep while walking, jogging, or eating like I had been for months. Do what you can to help the guy and you will be helping yourself in the process. BTW, has anyone ever told you you snore loudly?

  22. QUESTION:
eehhh, okay so I am not sure what to do about this problem?

Are there any medications my doctor can prescribe to rid the snoring??
read the entire question, tried them

    • ANSWER:
      Lol.

My mom and my sisters dad have the same prob.
He snores and she's a light sleeper so she can't sleep..Mostly of the time she goes to sleep on the couch or with me in my room.

A very common and effective snoring remedy is called positional therapy. Generally speaking, people snore less when they are not sleep in the supine position (illustrated to your right). Sleeping on your back allows your soft palate and uvula to relax into the back of your throat, obstructing your breathing pathways. By sleeping on your side, or in a prone position, you relieve some of the pressure put on your airways, allowing air to flow more freely, simultaneously reducing the volume of your snoring.

Second, avoid alcohol and tranquilizers. According to Dr. Karl Doghramji, “alcohol and sleeping pills can depress your central nervous system and relax the muscle of your throat and jaw, making snoring more likely”.

Third, lose weight. It was said that an extra weight especially around the neck puts a pressure on the airway and causes it to somehow collapse. So a healthy diet may be necessary to help get rid of snoring.

Fourth, stop smoking. If you’re a smoker, it’s better to quit because according to Westbrook “smoking can be very irritating to the lining of the upper airway, including the nose.” You will not only get rid of snoring, but it will be also good for your health.

Fifth, elevate your head. One way to get rid of snoring doing this, is putting pillows under neck until you get to a sitting-like position. Because according to Thomas Roth, “Sleeping with your head raised may take some of the pressure off the airway, making breathing easier.”

Sixth, keep regular schedule. Nino Murcia said, “Sleep deprivation also increases the volume of snoring.” Maintain a regular sleep schedule, as much as possible sleep enough hours. Dozing off during the day may be an indicator that you’re not getting enough sleep. Taking a nap on your free time may help to get rid of snoring problem.

      Hope I helped! (:

  23. QUESTION:
Do the chin straps (jaw straps) help with snoring?
I have sleep apnea and use a C-PAP machine, it works excellently on me and I use it every night. I wanted to ask if anyone has used the chin straps as an aid for this, I want to go camping and chances are I can't bring my C-PAP with me. Also, if the chin straps work this would be a great help for overnight stays or international travels, bringing the machine is a pain but I have to. I only need partial relief but I wonder if they are even good for that.
They do look funky, but considering the pros vs the cons gives you a no brainer. Besides, anyone that has had a sleepless night because of a snorer will not have a problem with the straps, not to mention that the idea is that everyone's eyes will be closed so no one will see you. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
My wife used to have a horrible snoring problem and we tried everything. All the little adjustments you could do and nothing worked. So we wanted to try something cheaper before we considered surgery or even a C-PAP. So we searched around and came up with the My Snoring Solution which is the chin strap your talking about. I was so excited when it finally arrived and the first night she used it it worked. She wears it every night and it continues to work. Honestly the thing looks ridiculous but it worked.

  24. QUESTION:
Help on sleeping and sleeping aids?
I'm 16 and I'm going away for a short trip with my parents in october and we're all staying in the same hotel room. Problem is, I find it difficult enough to get to sleep on my own, and near impossible with someone else in the room as even slightly noisy breathing keeps me awake, and my dad snores so loud it sounds like a chainsaw, so i doubt i will get any sleep and it will ruin the trip :(

So i was wondering if my doctor would give me sleeping pills just for a few days or whether you have to be tested for insomnia first? Or are there any non-prescription pills that work well (i live in the UK)? And does anyone have any good tips on getting to sleep? Thanks :)

    • ANSWER:
You could try self hypnosis. It works but only if you canlie still for at least 5 minutes.

"Israhell" raid on civilian fleet for the aid of Gaza. Where are the Arab leaders?
The Story is known now and no one needs to hear it again. But what is strange is that Arab leaders are snoring and the only ones who spoke, "condemned" when Turkey went further and said the raid is A " 'State' Terrorism". Is condemnation everything that the dictator Arab leaders could do?

My husband snores and twitches his legs all through the night. It has become worse as he has gained weight again. I am a light sleeper and wake up all through the night because of it. I have tried earplugs, a box fan on high, sleeping pills, and have had him try some snore stop spray from Rite Aid. None of this is getting us anywhere. Please help me sleep at night without having to take pills every night.

Tell him to get more exercise before he gets sleep apnea, and drink more water

  27. QUESTION:
First time away from baby and partner in 9 months and I can't sleep.....?
HELP! I am on a weekend trip with my mother and my aunt and I am missing my boys something terrible. I can't seem to sleep without the baby snoring softly next to me and my partner curled up with me, and my moms monstrous snores are not helping! How can I get to sleep, I feel so lost without them, and I can't take sleeping aids as I have none, should I just call in the morning so I can talk to them and fool around on here until I drop off...anything else I could do to help fall asleep?

    • ANSWER:
A thought, if you can "hug" your pillow, that might help. Definitely call them in the morning.
Try a warm bath or shower and hugging that pillow, that should help. If not, then just think about good things-like daydreaming, then you should be able to relax enough to sleep. You can be on the computer for a little while longer, but then if you are still "awake" try the above mentioned things.
Take care. Hurry home safely to your boys.

  28. QUESTION:
How do you get a good night sleep next to your spouse?
My husband and I have recently married and so have only slept in the same bed for about a year with no problems. But now he's put on some serious weight and it's effecting how *I* sleep. For one, the access weight has created this slant....whenever he gets into bed (I usually hit the hay earlier than he does) I literally roll from my side into him (lol). And wake up. Then he tosses and turns like there is a wild boar next to me. I swear he jumps 10 ft up and slams back into the bed, which obviously wakes me up. He also just started snoring. Not too bad, but once he rouses me from sleep the snoring keeps me awake sometimes. And guys, we have a fairly-new bed that I bought for my bad back that set me back 00 - on sale. What can a girl do? I'm exhausted when I wake up in the morning. I think it's especially bad for me, who always idolized my bed as my "peace zone". What do you do to cope? I'm thinking about taking some sleep aids.....or murder. One of the two :o )

PS- We plan on upgrading to a king (from the queen) to help, but that's a few months away in our budget.
As we're more or less newlyweds I just can't bare to do seperate rooms. I can live with the snoring (which I know is caused by the weight gain). He played college basketball and worked out non-stop for the team- now he's graduated and still eats the same (like a friggen horse) without the intense activity: hence the weight.

    • ANSWER:
I *JUST* went through this problem....we are broke.

I tried EVERY sleep aid. ...earplugs --- the list goes on.

We ended up getting two beds and putting them side-by-side with a space in between. I bought a second bed used - -off craigslist (almost brandnew.)
I felt SO guilty for a while not being able sleep in the same bed, and then when the exhaustion of weeks of not sleeping accumulated, I got over it....you will too.

We cuddle, etc. before bed at night and sometimes I even fall asleep with him - then I move over to my own bed. It has worked for us.

      good luck

  30. QUESTION:
My baby is 10 weeks old and a happy smiling little boy. The only problem I am having is sleep. He seems to?
prefer to stay awake all the time and fights going to sleep. That said, I do find it easy to get him off to sleep by use of sling, or a beanbag that I rock gently - think it's the swishing noise of the beans that he likes. The problem is that he can't stand his bassinet or cot. As soon as I try and move him from sling - bassinet etc.. he wakes up immediately. The only place he sleeps contendedly is in the beanbag, which is ok if I am sitting next to him but obviously I don't want to leave him to sleep in this as it's unsafe. I have tried swaddling and rocking him off to sleep and he HATES this and takes about an hour or two to get off and then the same thing happens as soon as I put him in his bassinet. I have tried elevating the bassinet on the advice of the doctor but this has not worked either. During the night I co-sleep with him and he wakes every 3 hours and has a feed, falling asleep at the breast. He rarely falls asleep at the breast during the day. He doesn't particularly like pacifiers or any sleep aids and I'm tearing my hair out during the day and worried that he will never go to sleep in his bassinet/cot!!!! I want to get out of the habit of sitting by him in the beanbag! Oh I also tried soothing music, white noise...everything...so yeah, my main concerns are not wanting to sleep in bassinet/cot and waking up within 15 mins off going to sleep (sometimes he is completely exhausted and snoring but will still wake up). He seems to want to be with me at all times. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

    • ANSWER:
You could try a swing. Or put a heating pad in the bassinet a few minutes before you put him down to his bed is toast warm and more comfy to sleep in. (of course take the heating pad out before you put the baby in)

DO NOT LET HIM CRY IT OUT!!!!

  31. QUESTION:
My 5 year old daughter snores at night....?
I live in New Delhi, India. I read an article recently which said that snoring causes distorted teeth and other problems and snoring is caused by enlarged tonsils. My daughter too suffers from tonsilitis and sore throat very easily and often I given her Homoepathic medicine (its name is 'Tonsil-Aid') to cure it. Is there any permanent and effective cure for tonsilitis other than surgery ? Is there any other method to stop snoring ? She suffers from a disturbed sleep and remains lazy early in the morning :(

    • ANSWER:
Well I've heard of this before but other then surgery, I would recommend
adjusting her pillow sometimes the air passage gets more air flow which helps a little with snoring other then that maybe over the counter Rx.

  34. QUESTION:
    first aid for seizures?
OK...my husband is epileptic and I am trained in first aid. I was at Costco today and some man had a grand mal seizure in the middle of of one of the isles. He did not hit his head, as his son caught him and laid him down gently. I tried to tell all the gawkers that all they had to do while waiting for the paramedics to get there was to turn him on his side in the recovery position. SOme old german lady ( a stranger to the victim) kept buggin everybody about why they did not shove something in his mouth so he did not swallow his tongue. And everyone was freaked out when he stopped thrashing and started "snoring" for lack of a better word. They insisted that he needed oxygen ( none was available anyway).

My question is for those with training, not medical wannabees...other than turning the victim on his side and keeping him from hurting himself on foriegn objects, what should be done? my training is to call for help and just stay with the victim until medical help arrives.
he was turning a really ugly shade of purple, but I figured the snoring was his way of clearing his airway. My husband occasionally does the "snore" in the postictal state, so I knew that it was normal. By the time the paramedics got there he was breathing and looking pink.
...a personal friend : I can see why you are a FORMER rescue worker. How the heck are you supposed to turn someone on thier belly while they are jerking thier head AND with arms and legs jerking? And why the hell does he need a blanket? he was seizing, not suffering from hypothermia. answers like yours are why I specifically said "no medical wannabes"

    • ANSWER:
No, just turn them on their side and make sure they don't hit anything. People can't swallow their tongue when they have a seizure, that's a wives tale. The tongue is firmly attached. They may bite their tongue, but inserting a foreign object into their mouth poses a greater choking risk. Post seizure (the post ictal state) a patient may snore because they are sleeping. Oxygen would be nice but not necessary, as long as the patient is breathing adequately.

If a patient is known to have a history of seizures it's not necessary to call for medical transport unless the seizure does not stop or is immediately followed by another one.

  35. QUESTION:
mixing hydrocodone, excedrin, and a natural sleep aid such as "hyland's: calms"?
i took the hydro for throat pain (sore throat) my mom said it might help, and its about 2 am christmas and my throat hurts so bad! i was even waking myself up snoring, so i took excedrin to ease the pain. NOW i cant sleep and really want to take hylands calms (natural sleep aid) but i dont know if i should mix anymore medications because i take antidepressants daily?

    help! need to sleep!

    • ANSWER:
Natural sleep aid? You should be fine, admittedly, I know nothing about "Hylands Calms"... but I'd be fine with melatonin or some Valerian.

  36. QUESTION:
do you suffer from severe insomnia?,pls help?
I take 4 kinds of med.'s to help calm me down and a sleep aid to help me sleep.i have moved myself away from my snoring husband,i have darkened my room(where I sleep now) and i do not lay down if i am not tired.i listen to a waterfall w/ soft music and i still can't find a remedy. My sleep disorder dr. says he doesn't know what else to try.
I also don't drink coffee after 3p.m. or i don't eat sugary items.
    WHAT CAN I DO?

    • ANSWER:
I have taken many of the different sleeping meds and none seem to have an effect on me (Lunesta, Restoral, Ambien, are just a few). I have found that taking klonopin about three hours before bedtime really helps relax me enough to sleep but the drug that has really helped me as of late is Stratterra. It is an ADD med and I take it at night instead of the morning so that I can "concentrate" on getting to sleep at night.

Keep in touch with your Dr. and your pharmacist to find the right combination of meds for you.

  37. QUESTION:
Medics I need help, did I mess up on first aid?
I am not a Medic but work as a corrections officer and am certified CPR and First Aid. Yesterday, I was getting into my car when I noticed two intoxicated men in an argument across the street. One man punched another so hard in the face that he fell over unconscious and cracked his head off the sidewalk.

This is a very bad area of town so I immediately noticed people laughing and noone was helping. I got out of my car, called 911 and ran across the street to the man who was not breathing. His mouth was full of blood and as I called dispatch they told me not to move him. I was being yelled at by "sight-seeing" individuals and the mans lips were turning purple. I hung up with dispatch and was rubbing the mans chest to try and get him to regain consciousness but realized it wasn't happening, he was choking/drowning on his own blood so I rolled him on his side.

As I did this blood poured out from his mouth and he started breathing, well actually snoring. He did not regain consciousness. Police had arrived and I had him by the arm and my knee in his side since he was over 300 lbs and all dead weight. It took medics about 7 mins to get there and they put him on a flat board and in a neck brace with a mask. Life flight was called and all I know is that he is in critical condition and barely alive.

Did I do wrong by rolling him over? He has suffered a massive brain injury. The other man sped off in another car. I don't know how to get ahold of anyone to see if he is still alive. I really want to know. Thanks.
Thank you, I did just find out he is in a coma and brain dead.

  39. QUESTION:
Is a bottle of wine a night too much?
My mother drinks a bottle of wine a night (normally white wine, if it makes any difference, she still uses the red wine glasses as well) She gets drunk every night and I've tried talking to her when she's sober, but she says "it's good for your blood" "it helps me sleep because your dad snores", blah blah, etc. I feel like she's making up excuses. She doesn't need alcohol as a sleep aid, my dad doesn't snore anymore. She also gets grouchy and violent when she's been drinking. I'm sick of it!
She's been like this since I was a kid but now it's getting out of hand. Is a bottle of wine too much?
@Mark and @mummy BELIEVE ME I've tried. She won't last a week without a drink. And when I talk to her she just acts all offended.
She's drunk right now. She's making stupid noises (my dads phone beeped and she was mimicking in it like it had offended her in sone bizarre way) and when she was downstairs she was telling something to Feck Auf.

    • ANSWER:
Your mom's an alcoholic. Simple test - tell her you're concerned about her drinking and challenge her to stay away from the drink for a month. I bet she can't, and if she can't you need to get her help.

  40. QUESTION:
    BoyFriend keeps passing out?
My boyfriend has always been a bit succeptible to falling asleep easily when hes tired, but these past few months its been worryingly strong. If hes even the least bit tired, he gets from slightly worn out to really sleepy in about 5 minutes. to the point i can look away for 10 seconds then hear him snoring his head off. every day, nierly, hes out for the count faster than normal people... but if something stops him actually falling asleep properly hes fine for about five minutes. but it does mean the odd laptop has fallen to its death while hes on the couch.

but he can lapse in and out of sleep too, hes been asleep for 3 minutes and then wakes up feeling like hes had a full night s sleep. for about 10 minutes then hes back to sleep again. its so quick though. sometimes he doesnt even need to be tired, he does it on car journeys, I can look over and hes fully awake. stop at the traffic lights and hes out of it for a few minutes.

now he is slightly overweight, but not grossly overweight. a cute belly never hurt anyone. he does have a small heart probolem with irrelgular heart beat. hes been getting chest pains too. suggestions might be helpful. Im really worried.

    thanks

    Dave

(PS. Im one of these people who find it hard to sleep. when i get to sleep i can never be woken up without the aid of an unreasonably loud noise. wich works for me because he cant wake me up if i snore, just rolls me over. I do find it rediculous that he manages it in about 5 minutes of starting to feel tired, but we do annoy eachother with both our snoring, how to stop? D:)

    • ANSWER:
He really needs to see his Doctor and get a referral to his local sleep clinic. There could be many causes, the most serious of which could be narcolepsy. Many people suffer from undiagnosed sleep disorders and do not know of the help that is available.

  43. QUESTION:
My four year old seeing his ENT doctor tomorrow. ?
I need some advice. I have the feeling that my son doctor give me a fight about taking his tonsils out. I believe it better for my son to get them out now. And his doctor doesn't.
This past February he got his adenoids taken out. They left his tonsils alone. Since then my son tonsils has been huge. Now he snoring during the night past three or four months. He been waking up alot during the night. I know couple of times he coughing but dry. He not eating to well that he has been loosing weight. Which is Doctor he see when he sick or his check up worried about his eating. He seem to play with his ears a lot. I know they are fine because took him to the doctor once for it when he had a cold and found out his tonsils were huge at that time. He does have speech problem due to his mild hearing loss. Also I had notice when I put his hearing aid's in he says it hurts like the whole ear hurt. But then he won't wear his hearing aid's. I been trying to do research on tonsils to see want would be best. Right now I think it best to get them out. I should my foot down with his doctor to take them out now. Or should I wait and see if there be any more problems. My mom coming with me tomorrow. I know my son has asthma and he gets a lot of colds that will make those tonsils to get huge has well.

    • ANSWER:
You dont nessesarily have to have continuous strep for them to remove tonsils, just talk to the dr and ask him to give you SPECIFIC reasons why he does not want them out, if he really cant then go get another dr who will take the time to really talk with you, if he gives you some reasons why not and they sound justifiable then thats ok too, he really may have some great reasons BUT unless he makes sure you are on the same page with him he cant expect you to understand, and vice~versa. I think the key here is to talk it out and if nothing resolves get a new dr! GOD BLESS and take care of that little one!

  44. QUESTION:
What Position do you sleep in?
    I found this interesting!

Do you sleep on your back, your stomach, or your side? A recent study by sleep expert Chris Idzikowski, director of the Sleep Assessment and Advisory Service, suggested a correlation between six common sleeping positions and the personality traits of the sleepers themselves. Preferred sleeping positions are seen as a sort of subconscious body language that reflects our inner traits. The study was commissioned by a large hotel group

The most common sleeping positions (and corresponding personality) identified were:

Fetal Position (41%) Curled up on your side, holding the pillow. The most popular sleeping position, this one was favored by 51% of the women in the study. The personality of these sleepers tends to be shy and sensitive, though they may present a tough exterior to the world.

Soldier Position (8%) Flat on your back with arms at your sides. Indicates a quiet and reserved personality who sets high standards.

Starfish Position (5%) Lying on your back with arms and legs outstretched. Indicates a good listener who makes friends easily, but prefers not to be the center of attention.

Freefall Position (7%) Flat on your stomach with arms at the head or ears. Indicates a brash and gregarious exterior who may inwardly be nervous and sensitive to criticism.

Log Position (15%) On your side with legs outstretched and arms at your sides. Indicates a social, easygoing personality.

Yearner Position (13%) Similar to the log, but with arms outstretched. Said to indicate a suspicious and cynical personality.

Professor Idzikowski went on to say that the freefall position aided digestion, while the starfish and soldier sleeping positions were more likely to lead to snoring and an overall bad nights' sleep. But it may be as difficult to change as your personality itself; fewer than five percent of people slept in a different sleeping position every night.
I am also freefall position.. and fetal position

    • ANSWER:
Freefall Position. On my stomach, Except I cross my arms underneath my chest (like a vampire) lol.

I've heard it's a bad position for back alignment, but I can't fall asleep any other way; Except when sleeping with my boyfriend, sometimes I can sleep in the fetal position if he's spooning me, but this is rare to last all night as I usually wake up in a few hours and turn on my stomach.

      Good question, interesting!

  45. QUESTION:
I am very concerned about a First Aid lesson I received today?
Can somebody answer two questions I have on First Aid (basic level).

    1. The teacher said that if a patient has a suspected spinal, is unconscious but is breathing, we should roll them into the lateral position to make sure the airways isn't clogged, even if there's no blood or water involved (she says the tongue may be in the way). I told her it would be alot smarter to physically remove the tongue out of the way and not touch the patient on their back because otherwise they will be in a wheelchair the rest of their lives...apparently, I'm wrong!! Where's the sense in this, people snore and choke on their tongues hundreds of times each night (they're unconscious and breathing). I don't understand why we should totally wreck someone's chance of recovering from a spinal injury just to put them on their side.

    2. She also said that if you arrive at your woprkplace (you're the first and only one there) and you find the cleaner on the floor, unconscious (you know he's fallen down) and not breathing, you should start doing DRABCD, and do a (quote) "couple of cycles of compressions and breaths" and then if nobody has arrived to assist you, call 000 (ambulance). Why the f*ck wouldn't we call the ambulance in first instance? 9 times out of ten, first aiders are doing it wrong, or are inequipped to handle such things, and calling paramedics is paramount because they know what they're doing.

    Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
      1. in a suspected spinal injury, do not move them on their side. to open their airway, do the jaw thrust maneuver, while holding c-spine immobilization.
      2. current AHA guidelines for CPR:
      1. check responsiveness. use the AVPU (alert, responds to Voice, responds to Pain, Unresponsive)
      2. always follow ABC's: airway, breathing, circulation. Airway: make sure his airway is intact, do the head-tilt chin lift to open airway, or the jaw thrust if spinal injury involved. look in the throat to see if there is anything blocking the airway. if so, get it out.
      3. Breathing: look, listen, feel. look for rise/fall of chest, listen for breath sounds, and feel for air coming from the mouth.
      4. Circulation: check for a pulse. the easiest is the radial position, but is not always present, so check for a carotid (neck) or the femoral (groin).
All of this can be done within 30 seconds if done properly. If the patient is down, after this, go and get some help. then start your CPR protocols.
If the pt. is not breathing, but has a palpable pulse, start rescue breathing at about a breath every 5 seconds. there is no need to do chest compressions on someone who has a pulse. but yes, getting paramedic help is of paramount asap, because they have the proper equipment to deal with these kind of things.

  46. QUESTION:
Would anyone, with a well-paying job and good healthcare policy, be interested in an arranged marriage?
I'm great looking, smart, can cook and clean, but I don't have the time or interest to go out and meet women. If there a good-looking woman out there who feels the same way and has a good job and can support my somewhat sporadic income as a result of playing online poker while attending law school, let's get this thing done. Marriage has its financial and societal benefits, but I do not consider it an eternal bond nor do I care if you sleep around, as long as I know with whom and as long you do not have AIDS. I'm entirely open-minded, not clingy at all, and I don't snore. I even put down the toilet seat when I'm done. If I sound like the person for you, let me know, and we can hammer out the details in the form of a written agreement and our families can exchange dowries immediately. I don't want children, but I'm willing to budge on my stance if it involves adopting an 18-year old Korean Girl. Please respond if you are interested so we can discuss further.
I'm not a pedophile. I'm 22 years old. I will be attending law school next fall but haven't decided where, so don't worry about locale.

To box of rain: I'm not looking for a date. I'm looking for an arranged marriage partner.

To Ahmad: Thanks for the offer on your maid, but it doesn't sound like she'll make enough to support me and my free-spending habits.
To Kalis: I am entirely serious. As far what I offer: I'm great looking, highly intelligent, good at housework, and I can do a pretty mean robot dance. I'm sure you can find some functionality in me. I'm willing to lay out a blueprint of my daily contributions upon entering the written contract stage.

To all prospective arranged marriage partners: I will probably still date on the side, but I will inform in advance. I do not do online dating. I think it is pathetic. Online arranged marriages, on the other hand, are much more convenient and time-efficient (condensing what would usually take years into a matter of hours) and it would really facilitate the whole process for me and anyone else with a lot going on their lives.
Also, to prospective online arranged marriage partners: You will be taking part in a historic event as my research shows there are no precedents for this. You will be one-half of the first ever online arranged marriage and a pioneer for a future phenomenon. We will probably even end on The View at some point and possibly end up with our own late night show and cable TV. Think of the historic value, let alone the benefits of an arranged marriage with arguably the most divine person on this planet.

  47. QUESTION:
My girlfreind will not sleep in the same bed with me?
We have been going out for a year and a half now Im 36,shes 40.She told me that she could not sleep in the same bed because of snoring which I do not do, she said she likes to sprawl out and take up the bed, she said its because I lived so far away only 80 miles, she said its also because of she has not been with someone in 10 years. So in a year and a half of going out with her I slept in the same bed only once, because she was drunk. Then she finally told me she its because she cant sleep when the other person in bed is breathing it keeps her awake.,Im like what? So i went down to Rite Aid and bought some earplugs made just for sleeping issues, and she tried them and it did not work. Then I finally gave up and now she gets pissed everytime I bring up the sleeping issue. One day I just ask her ,were you molested as a child?I heard that could be a reason for not sleeping together. Then I ask her about her past relationships and she said that she tried to sleep with her boyfreinds but could not either. So I just sleep in the other bed at her Apartment. She is a super nice person but I dont get the sleeping issue thing Ive tried to talk her about but I keep hearing different stories. She comes from a Catholic family if that has any thing to do with it ,also she has 5 brothers and 5 sisters,
I told her that your my girlfreind and your boyfriend should sleep with you,it only normal isnt it? I need to know from ANSWERS that if we ever break up will the next guy think its strange too?
Just to let everyone know the sex is awsome, we get along great,it just that I would like to sleep with my girlfreind and talking about to her just gets her pissed, she says that Im giving her shit when Im not,I want to help her on this issue but she said she could care less with sleeping in the same bed

  48. QUESTION:
Why does it still hurt? Help, how can I get over a tragic event in my life?
When I was 18, I witnessed my uncle having a massive heart attak.
It was winter 2008, my cousin and i were watching tv on the couch and my uncle was in his chair. We were deep into our show (greys anatomy) and heard my uncle making weird snoring noises. We thought he was joking, until he never answered us and something seemed seriously wrong!
I ran to my uncles side ans realized that he was having a really hard time breathing and he was not responding to me or my cousin.
Soon my First Aid training kicked in and I became a totally different person, as my poor cousin was watching her father have a heart attach right in front of us. I called 911 and his ex wife whom lived 12 minutes away. As i hung up the phone, I got my uncle on the ground off his chair, and felt that he wasnt even breathing and made sure he wasnt choking. I then realized what was going on and started the CPR. I remembered everything from the lessons.
    1. making sure his airway was open
    2. breathing into his airway
    3. doing 30 chest compressions
and repeating the steps and making sure he wasnt breathing on his own again..
My Aunt arrived and tried to releave me from doing the compressions but she was not strong enough or in the right state of mind to do it so i pushed her out of the way...
still doing compressions for 25 minutes hoping and praying, waiting for the ambulance I realized that my uncle had passed away in my hands.
As the ambulance attendees got there they tried reviving him by using the paddles but they knew and just didnt say anything that he was gone. I was even helping the attendees get him onto the gurney and rushing him into the ambulance! As they left with my uncle and aunt. I waited for the ambulance to leave, I got into my aunts car and drove my cousin and I to the hospital 35 minutes away! not even keeping up with ambulance because i was in no state to drive at high speeds. praying with my cousin on the way to the hospital that the he will be alright.
getting to the hospital and being kept in a small room waiting to hear from my aunt and the doctor, nurses and the attendees kept asking me to speak to them and saying that I did an amazing job! So this gave me hope!
As the doctor and my aunt came out, from my aunts face i knew, and my cousin was bursting into tears. My uncle passed away!
Later that night leaving the hospital at 2:30 am, i drove my aunt and my cousin home to my aunts house, in the absoute worst snow storm of the year. Not being able to see 5 ft infront of the car.
Later I was up all night, not being able to sleep. while my cousin was trying to rest, and my aunt called her parents.
Calling my father was extremely hard because he and my uncle were best friends! explaining to him what happened was the worst thing ever!!

Still to this day I believe if I just did something more, I could still be with my uncle! For the longest time my relationship with my cousin was weird because I felt like she blamed me for not saving him or for doing something wrong.
I still carry this horrible feeling around with me, and honestly think about it everyday!
How can I get past this? I still sometimes cry silently at night before falling asleep so that my boyfriend doesnt hear me...
    Please help..

    • ANSWER:
Grief is a terrible thing and can last for a long time. Guilt sometimes comes and a lot of people will feel guilty thinking they could have done more, but really honey you did everything and more. I think because you saw him die that it has affected you more. Seeing someone die is horrible. Sudden death is worse. It is traumatic. I think you need to cry. Crying can help get some of it out. Then it builds up again and you cry more. Don't try to be quiet, just cry. Trying to be quiet when you cry is an awful straining thing, not the cleansing, cathartic cry you need. Just explain to your boyfriend. I am sorry for your pain.

  49. QUESTION:
How do I sleep better when I'm on vacation?
    Hello,
I am a 19 year old female and I always have problems sleeping when I am on vacation. I have never traveled alone but I am thinking about visiting Vancouver in Canada, or Massachusetts. I plan on staying in a hostel dorm to save money. When I do go on vacation with my parents I have problems sleeping because they both snore. I use earplugs and I take a sleeping pill like Sominex with 50mg of Diphenhydramine. I still only end up getting around 4 hours of sleep, I normally get around 8 to 8 and a half. I bring my own pillow. And I only use sleeping aids when I go on vacation. I really need some help on sleeping better while on vacation

    • ANSWER:
I think you should use an all natural health product for your sleeping problem. Sleep So Good cream is one of the best example for it because it is natural, and our bodies can metabolize the ingredients as it was designed to do, minimizing side effects. Prescription sleep aids are strong and often contain dangerous narcotics.

Natural sleep ingredients found in SleepSoGood™ are not harmful to the body. In fact, they are naturally created by the human body. Those who suffer with sleep symptoms are often not creating enough of these natural ingredients to maintain a great night’s sleep.

  50. QUESTION:
Any way to change from a light to heavy sleeper?
Ever since October, I have had horrible sleep due to having to have a roomate (financial issues), and this son of a bitch is always up until 3am, so I can never sleep because he's always playing online games or watching TV, etc. just making noise in general. But the worst thing is his HORRIBLE SNORING. But in many ways I cant blame him because we have different schedules, mine being early, and his late. Ive always been the type that always had to have the room dark and quiet, with no sound in order to sleep.

Now it has gotten to the point where I cant stand it anymore.I am not a very bitter, impatient pessimist cause I cant ever sleep. I cannot remember the last day I funtioned feeling good and refreshed, melatonin doesn't work, nor does any other aid. Ear plugs I wear now, but it hurts and is always lumpy and uncomfortable.

He, on the other hand, can sleep through a storm with ease. How can I be like him? I hate our sleep-related conflicts, he's a nice guy other than this.

    • ANSWER:
No, it's not conciously possible really, I don't think. Maybe try sleeping pills, like Lunesta, or something. If you don't want that I suggest either rolling up a blanket to cover the crakc in the bottom of the door, I used to do that when I was little and my older brother was having house parties, haha. OR tell your friend to turn down the TV and his video games.
