If it's left untreated, sleep apnea can lead to other serious heart-related health problems such as hypertension, high blood pressure, arrhythmia, hypercapnia, stroke and heart disease. The link between heart disease and sleep apnea is still not fully understood, however.
People who are suffering from heart problems tend to have a high number of occurrences of sleep apnea. However, it isn't fully clear if the sleep apnea is the direct cause of the heart disease.
One thing that is clear is that someone who is suffering from sleep apnea has a much greater chance of developing hypertension. It has been shown that people who are suffering from both sleep apnea and high blood pressure show considerable improvement when treated for both. The same goes for sleep apnea and heart disease.
When a sleep apnea episode happens at night, the blood pressure increases because of a drop in the oxygen levels in the body. When this occurs, the brain tells the blood vessels to "tighten up" in order to get more oxygen to the brain and the heart, followed by the rest of the body.
The stoppages of breathing at night can last between 1 and 4 minutes, causing a large amount of stress to the heart. This also tends to carry forward into the daytime while awake. The mechanisms triggered by low oxygen levels in the body continue to operate during the day.
Sleep apnea sufferers have a 2.3 times greater chance of developing congestive heart failure than those who aren't dealing with it. Those suffering from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) have a 1.5 times greater chance of having a stroke.
Sleep apnea can also contribute to more complications for anyone suffering from atrial fibrillation, a condition where the upper part of the heart (the atrium) is beating out of sync with the lower part (the ventricle).
To treat atrial fibrillation, the heart is cardioverted, meaning the atrium is reset to make it beat in sync with the ventricle. Over 50% of the people who have this procedure done suffer a relapse of the atrial fibrillation. In sleep apnea sufferers, that number has been shown to increase to 80%.
Regular doctor visits and following their treatment recommendations are critical to anyone suffering from both these health problems.

QUESTION:
Why do i have chest pain, and servere breathing issues while using a 'vpap" Servo for mixed sleep apena ?
have copd,asmath,2mi's,3 heart stents, and then was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea requiring the use of a vpap servo, like a CAP or bi-pap.using controller and emergency inhaler, also nubulizer, but yet sill having major issues, while trying to use vpap, causing chest pain breathing issues, and also arrhythmia's requiring 911,and hospitalization.(sorry for spelling)-
ANSWER:
Gerald,
The possible side effects from using the VPAP machine include headaches, sore eyes, discomfort in the middle ear, sinus pressure, and dryness in the nose, throat, lips and mouth. Possible bodily side effects of using a VPAP machine include chest pain and bloating from the amount of air swallowed during treatment (aerophagia). The fact that you have had to call the emergency services due to the use of the VPAP machine, and suffering arrhythmias indicates that you should be re-assessed by your prescribing doctor/specialist and alternative method(s)/treatment should be investigated. This should be done at the earliest opportunity. I wish you well.ALL ANSWERS SHOULD BE THOROUGHLY RESEARCHED, IN ANY FORUM AND ESPECIALLY IN THIS ONE. - MANY ANSWERS ARE FLAWED.

What is the BEST nasal strip or other product for severe sleep apnea?
Over the counter, nonprescription product please. Can not mix with Coumadin. I'm trying to find something other than the Breath Right strip for my husband before I put a pillow over his head. Even if I go to bed before him, his snoring wakes me up. I don't want him to always sleep in another room. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.
-to use for now until he gets the CPAP machine....-
ANSWER:
Well if he's got a CPAP coming that's good news. You'll be amazed. It'll be a LOT quiter in your bedroom.Until then - my wife used earplugs for years (and slept in the other room!) Nasal strips, sprays etc are a waste of money. How is a nasal strip going to keep his soft palette from vibrating? Never understood that.

QUESTION:
Stop breathing at onset of trying to go to sleep?
I stop breathing during the beginning stages of sleep and wake up ia a panic, often jumping out of bed gasping for air. It started 28 years ago and only happened about once every couple of months. Now, it happens daily, even when I try to nap. The only was I can drift off to sleep peacefully is with either, Ambien, Lunesta or a BENZO (like Valium or Lorazepam). The last week it is getting even worse. I get a throbbing small pain near either my right temple area, sometimes either temple area or on the top/side middle of my head. I have been to two sleep studies, but the last one was 2 years ago and that night I didn't have an event. However, I was diagnosed with having mild OSA. The sleep doctor put me on a CPAP machine (which I bought) and it only made the condition worse. He tried every titration and still was bad. I don't know if I have mixed sleep apnea. I had a neurological study done and it turned up negative. I have read about Central or Mixed Sleep Apnea and in my opinion, I might be suffering from it. It seems that my brain-control center for going to sleep have gone haywire. I have read about taking Medroxyprogestorne (Provera, Cycrin, Amen), Acetazolamide (Diamox). Theophylline (Theo-Dur, Respbid, Slo-Bid, Theo-24, Theolair, Uniphyl, Slo-Phyllin), traicyclic antidepressants and selective reuptake inhibitors (SSRI's). I am currently taking Surmontil 100 mg. per day and and Lamictal 125 mg. Please help me if you have any ideas or suggestions. I feel that my body can't handle the stress of this much longer.-
ANSWER:
You're obviously on meds from the doctor. Talk to him and let him know how you feel. Ask him to recommend a Specialist that you can see for a second opinion. There is a chance the combination of drugs could be causing the problems. Make sure the doctor knows all of the over the counter medications and supplements you are taking too.Hope things get better for you.

QUESTION:
Sleep Apnea... how soon can I expect to feel better, and just what will 'feel better' feel like?
I've recently been diagnosed with sleep apnea; the full diagnosis was "obstructive, central, and mixed " I've been prescribed a CPAP, w/ full mask (CFlex). Guess my question is.. how soon can I expect to feel better, and just what will 'feel better' feel like? evidently i've had this for quite some time, and would appreciate hearing from someone with personal experience of treatment for same.
Thanx~-
ANSWER:
It takes time. Your body is used to running on empty so to speak and it has to readjust to being normal. Use the CPAP nightly as prescribed and hopefully you'll see effects soon. If after a month you see no change in how you feel (less tired, etc) call your home care company for a follow up (which they should be calling you regularly anyway, be honest when you talk to them) Sometimes the pressure isn't right the mask isnt right for the person and alot of patients hate c-flex from my experience. Sometimes turning that off helps.

QUESTION:
diagnosed with sleep apnea?
hey, 22yrold marine 2 1/2 years in been on 1 combat tour to afghan. I finally recieved my results from the sleep study my MO referred me to. The end comments from the phsyician was I have mild obstructive sleep apnea and also severe snoring. I had episodes from obstructive, central and mixed about 40 in 5 hours. I will be meeting with my MO in the AM to see what he has to say. Anyone else share this problem? Looks like ill have to get a cpap machine. I have heard rumors that sleep apnea is automatic Med board. If anyone could shed some light I will appriciate it.
I am an infantryman by trade and being in a grunt unit isn't exactly the easiest place to be when you want treatment esp. the way Afghanistan is now sending more troops. hope for the best I guess. I feel as if the problem is progressively getting worse.-

QUESTION:
a question about snoring, acid reflux and sleep apnea?
so i have a medication for my acid reflux that im not taking since it's summer and my schedule is all messed up. the directions clearly state to take one pill with my morning meal and one with my evening meal. i don't wake up in the morning, i sleep in 'til the afternoon =P so i'm waiting til i start school again august 11th and when i get back into the swing of things to start taking it again. anyhow almost every night im waking up several times to a very dry mouth (i keep a glass of water with me for when this happens) and sometimes i wake up gasping for air and i feel my acid reflux burning my throat and i get that awful taste in my mouth, mixed with a strange sweet taste. when this happens i usually take a pepcid and go back to sleep and that does the trick. sometimes the gasping and sputtering gets so bad i puke a little in my mouth =/ gross, i know. and according to my mom i snore loudly. but i think i breathe/snore through my mouth since i wake up with the dry mouth. i sleep on my side/stomach so i think that contributes to why my mouth happens to open during the night, especially when i sometimes wake up with my face buried in my pillow or blankets, thus smashing my nose/nostrils closed. so i think i could fix all this if i just slept on my back but i find it so uncomfortable and out of habit i tend to get on my side or stomach during the night when i'm fast asleep without my knowing. so my question is could my snoring be further aggravating my acid reflux, thus causing the waking up gasping? or could my waking up gasping be something more serious like sleep apnea? and now that it's summer where i live and more dry could that have anything to do with my dry mouth? because none of this ever happened in any other seasons. or could it have to do with the fact that my mattress is kind of close to the air vent where the AC blows out? or could my fan blowing on me all night be a contributing factor? also a year ago i was diagnosed with valley fever and an ex ray saw that i had a "sac" on my lung. the doctor's figured it was non-cancerous and i was told to go see a pulmonologist but i never did. silly me. time escaped me =/ so could this have anything to do with any of this? sorry this is really long and scattered-like but if you have got to this point thanks for reading. serious answers only. please and thanks.-
ANSWER:
I suffered from sleep apnea for about 10 years, until I came to my senses and had the sleep apnea test done. I can tell you without a doubt that I had all of the symptoms that you have written about for many years and they were all tearing me down. The snoring, acid reflux, dry mouth, etc. The sleep disorder study took care of all of that for me. It has changed my life. It will change yours. Not to mention that if you are still in school, you are going to have new found energy that I know for a fact will enhance your studies. Not to mention improve your health. Get a consultation, and then do the sleep study. What is the worst that can happen? Once you go to the sleep study, they tell you that you do not have sleep apnea, then it is a win situation for you and they might even know the source of your problems. But I am guessing with your symptoms, that you do suffer from sleep apnea. Do not discard this, it can be serious.

QUESTION:
Sleep apnea?
I made an exam (polysonomgram) where I slept in a clinic with loads of wires on my body and head. I got the results but havent gone to dcotor yet only next week. the exam says i had loads of apneas during the night. it says i had 5 central apneas, 47 mistas (mixed?) apneas. the longest was 39 seconds. i really feel asleep during the day and have fatigue. i wanted to know if that result is just a little apnea or if its a high level of it, which can cause damage(as it seems to do).-
ANSWER:
Your test results seem to indicate a fairly severe apnoea. Your doctor will give you whatever advice you need but from my nursing experience he is going to tell you to lose weight. Sleep apnoea is very rare in normal weight or underweight people.

QUESTION:
Do I have sleep apnea?
I find it really difficult to wake up in the mornings even after having 10 hours sleep and continue to feel very tired throughout the day despite sleeping for so long. Also I find that when I nap I fall in to a deep sleep and suddenly I awake gasping for breath as though I haven't been breathing. I'm not sure if I don't breathe during my sleep at other times and don't often awake at night. I have also recently had sleep paralysis. I do sometimes wake up dripping in sweat but this is quite rare. I also have problems falling asleep sometimes. I know these are all very mixed signals but could someone help me please? Thanks
I am within the healthy weight range, and more on the lower side of the range. I also don't particularly snore, which is common for this. Also if I don't have this what is it?-
ANSWER:
Sleep apnea is, in general, a random of signals. Most of the symptoms that you have are signs of sleep apnea. You said you don't particularly snore...how do you know ? There is someone who is sleeping next to you who watch your sleep?
In general, people with snoring problems don't realize this.
Even sleep paralysis is a symptom of sleep apnea.
Sleep apnea is when you stop breathing in your sleep, and not only once, but ten or hundreds of times in one night! No wonder you are so sleepy in daytime.

QUESTION:
why do i forget to breathe during the day?
a few times a day i forget to breathe,but i don't know why.
some people mix it up with sleep apnea.but it doesn't really happen to me while im asleep.-
ANSWER:
I do the same thing when I'm busy. Try taking time to slow down every now and then. You also might need to drink more water. The exchange of gases in your lungs uses water, and your body tries to save water by letting you forget. Don't worry about it to much.--Chester

ANSWER:
Sure you can. You can do it yourself. Look at the questions again. These call for test-taking strategies. First of all, your textbook or another textbook on the same subject should have an index. Look up your terms in the index. That will answer questions 9 and 10 immediately. Or use an online dictionary and key in the term.Second, there's a lot on REM sleep. Run a google search, print the pages, and find your answers from them. Or look at your text or study guide.
It's taken you longer to key in those questions than to use study strategies to find answers. And YES - getting someone else to answer the questions and putting down the answers as your own IS cheating, and isn't fair to those who are doing the work.

QUESTION:
Can obstructive sleep apneas go away?
I did an at home sleep test to check for sleep apnea. I had an average of 8.6 obstructive apneas per hour; central apneas were 8.3 per hour and mixed were 6.8 per hour. My AHI was 37.1. So it seems clear I have (had) a problem with sleep apnea. FYI, I lost my insurance right after the test was done but before I was able to meet with a doctor. This was last summer. Since then, I have moved and lost a bit of weight (although not more than 10 lbs). Why moving might be important: If my problem seems to have been primarily obstructive sleep apnea, and I don't have allergies in my new home along with a bit of weight loss, could that explain why I no longer have problems?
Also, I have an anxiety disorder and I read they normally don't want you to take xanax before sleep because it can depress the system even more. However, on the occasions I take it before bed, I sleep better and without apneas (at least as noticed by my significant other). Is this normal or can it be explained? Thanks for your help in advance.
-
ANSWER:
Well, xanax is different for everyone, it was recommended that you didnt use it but that is only a recommendation, not like you will die if you took it. Now since i dont really know you it is hard to find an exact answer to why you are able to have this. Thanks

QUESTION:
I have mixed emotions about my fiance and our relationship.?
Sometimes i feel i may be overreacting, but correct me if i'm wrong. Why do i feel as if our relationship revolves around his son? He has a five year old and a sixteen year old daughter. He grew apart from his daughter because - to cut the long story short, he was young when they had her, they both (him/baby'smom) gave up custody to the bbymom's parents. So they grew apart. However, they're now trying to rebuild their relationship. But my major concern is, my fiance's almost obsession with his son. I love the kid - he's adorable, and i get on swell with him. But its just that the kid removed from the equation, my fiance changes and becomes disinterested in doing stuff together. I may be reading the signals wrong, but it seems scarry at times. Left alone just the two of us, he spends 95% of his time on his laptop, suggestions to do outdoor things or any other fun stuff is met with, i'm not feeling well or i'm too tired. He has slight sleep apnea, i understand but can't he at least try?-
ANSWER:
Hi, Just wanted to offer you my opinion on this subject.
I will start by asking you, if the situation were reversed--if you had a child at a young age, gave that child up, and then later had another child--what kind of parent would you be?Tough question? I would think that being a young parent and making the decision to give up my baby would be even more difficult--possibly, one of the toughest decision's he had to make. He sounds like a wonderful father, and I will assume this is one of qualities you love about him. If you plan on making a life with this man-you will become a family, so be sure that you are prepared to take that on. It is not about you and him. It is about all that was and is in his life-including; Daughter and Son. You cannot "remove" them from the equation. It is a part of his life.
As for you and fiance', when you do get that time alone. Talk to him about what you would like to do together. Tell him that is what you want and need. If that doesn't work--then I really believe you have to make a decision "for yourself", is this the kind of life you want? It certainly won't change when/if you get married.

QUESTION:
Depression and Anxiety- I have been married for 20 years and my wife has just?
filed for divorce. Actually, she told me in March 2008 that she could no longer take our life together and that if I didn't do something about myself, our marriage would be over. In normal fashion for myself I felt threatened and acted as though she was to blame for the failure.I suffer from severe sleep apnea plus a very stressful job which has been a recipe for disaster for many years. At her request saw a psycholgist who in my opinion had seen her better years and was totally unhelpul. After this failed relationship with the counselor, I gave up hope on the counseling and focused on getting my physical health better as the apnea had helped me gain 75 pounds last year and thus I was slippin deeper and deeper into depression.
In September my wife asked me to move out and I totally freaked out. I would call her 12 times a day and beg her to change her mind. She told me I had not done anything to get better mentally and I simply thought this was a huge game on her part. I became paranoid of another man etc. She stated she needed space to clear her thoughts as we have 2 children and she's truly a great mother. I then consulted in a few friends that gave their uneducated opinion on women who need space and they all said "you're done when women say this". I never should have listened to this advice as I've later learned she was needing space to clear her head and I simply was freaking out thinking the world was ending. I'd call and yell at her then turn right around and tell her I love her. Obviouly irrational thinking. I cursed in front of my two beautiful children etc. and that was all she could take and she filed for divorce. Upon receiving the papers I wanted to commit suicide so I drove myself straight to the closest mental health hospital I could find.
I spent 7 days there and learned SO MUCH about myself. I learned I have been depressed for many years and that I had had a nervous breakdown and my actions over the past year could have been fixed with medication and therapy had I just taken the step faster.
I'm now seeing a therapist weekly and taking medication. My mind is clear and my mood swings are ending. I see totally why my wife just couldn't live with me any longer as I wouldn't want my children to have spouses like I had became.
My situation is this. Our marriage won't go to the courts until April. My wife has agreed to sit down and talk to me. She is a terrific person but like myself and so many others, I don't think she will understand the whole mental health issue and it's treatability. I do understand as I have acted very irrational but so much was due to not sleeping for years mixed with severe depression.
I really hate to see this marriage of 20 years and friendship of 23 years end due to something I'm told is very controllable.
Any suggestions on what to say when we get together in a few weeks?
Any further details would glady be given at ei_beachouse@yahoo.com
Thanks,!

ANSWER:
Pray about it. Know that God can help you live a better life if you want Him to help you. You can have a personal relationship with God by saying the prayer below. God is our Creator, all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal, holy, love. God loves us and sent us His Son, Jesus Christ, so we can go to heaven if we know and follow Him. Forever means without end -- time on and on without death. Forever is what happens after we die. Either we go to heaven and be with God forever, or we go to hell which is very bad and painful forever. The good people who are saved believers in Jesus Christ go to heaven. The bad people go to hell. We need to know and follow God in this world to get to heaven in the next world. We follow God by loving and obeying Him and loving others for Him. Jesus Christ, God's Son, is our bridge to God. Jesus died on the cross to cancel our sins. We need to accept Jesus into our life as our Lord and Savior forever to receive God's blessing and forgiveness plus go to heaven to be with God forever after we die. This is about being a born-again Christian. Faith in God is a gift from God. You can pray for faith in God. Just speak out and ask God for the faith to believe in Him and to follow Him. Some people find faith in God when they realize the beauty in the world is made by God. Evolution can't explain the world's natural beauty, for example, the parks in the world, animals, flowers, peacocks, sunsets, butterflies, rainbows, etc. After you have your faith on, you can pray a sinner's prayer to be a born-again Christian. This prayer is very important and should be said with a sincere heart and faith in God. This is the prayer: "Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and that Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for our sins. I have done the following sins (state these out) and I pray to discontinue these sins. I pray to receive Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior forever. In Jesus' name, amen." I'm Lutheran and I like the Baptist churches too. You could check out a Christian church and also see about their weekly Bible study group as a good way to learn about God's will for your life. You can pray to God about your daily life and have a Christian church pray for you.

QUESTION:
ResMed S9 AutoSet vs. Respironics REMstar Auto (PLEASE help)?
I have moderate obstructive sleep disordered breathing with UARS and don't know which machine would be better for me: the ResMed S9 AutoSet or the Respironics REMstar Auto. Here is the data from my polysomnography:
- AHI = 4 events per hour
- Supine AHI = 3
- REM AHI = 6.6
- Obstructive apneas = 0
- Central apneas = 0
- Mixed apneas = 0
- Apnea Index = 0
- Central apnea index = 0
- Mixed apnea index = 0
- RDI = 26.5 events per hour
- Total respiratory arousals = 165
- Respiratory arousal index = 28.4
- Total RERAs = 131
- Rera = 22.6 per hour
- Arousal index = 49.9
- Arousals = 290
- Average duration of apnea/hypopnea events = 33.8 seconds
- Longest hypopnea = 54.9 seconds
- Less than 1% of sleep was spent in oxygen saturations less than 90%Diagnosis: "Moderately severe obstructive sleep disordered breathing with evidence of upper airway resistance syndrome (UARS) in a patient with snoring. There was exacerbation noted during REM stage sleep."
I just did my CPAP titration study and don't have the results yet. But the technician told me that the highest pressure used was 10.
Here is the issue: I was set on getting the ResMed S9 AutoSet because it seems to be in a league of its own with all the different features and the design. Unfortunately, it doesn't detect RERA's, and the Respironics REMstar Auto does.
Given my profile, which would be more important, the design and features of the ResMed S9 AutoSet or the ability to detect RERA's with the Respironics REMstar Auto?
I'm concerned that since I have UARs with RERAs, if I get the S9 AutoSet and start having events, it wont be able to detect them and I will have no idea what's going on in terms of duration and frequency when I look at the data reports.
Here is what the ResMed S9 AutoSet detects and reports:
- AHI
- Pressure
- Leak
- Central Apnea Index (CAI)Here is what the Respironics REMstar Auto detects and reports:
- AHI
- FL (flow limitation)
- RERA
- snore
- leak
- CA (clear airway apnea)
- OA (obstructed airway apnea)
- HY (hypopnea)
- PB (periodic breathing)I am totally new to all of this and have no idea if I'm over thinking this issue. However, if anybody can provide some insight as to which machine would be best for me I would greatly appreciate it. UARS has destroyed my life and I would really like to get it under control.
Thank you in advance for your advice.
-
ANSWER:
My honest opinions coming from someone who's been in the clinical department of a DME company for years...Why get an auto!? You just did a titration study which detects what your optimal pressure setting is. The doctor is not going to now order an auto adjusting machine.
The UARS that you refer to are also hypopneas and MILLIONS of people have them, including my husband, and a standard CPAP treats them well. A hypopnea is a 50% or greater reduction in flow with vary amounts of oxygen desaturations. If the tech from the titration study feels 10cm is effective, it will treat your apnea.
Based on the data you gave, your AHI is 0. That means that you had NO obstructive or central apneas or hypopneas is more than 4% drop in oxygen. Because your RDI (respiratory disturbance index) is elevated, that tells me that you have hypopneas with less than 4% drop in oxygen. You also indicated that you spend a minute amount of time below an acceptable oxygen level, if at all.
If your insurance covers CPAP (as it might not because your AHI is 0 and some insurances don't recognize RDI), a standard CPAP is what you'll get from any DME company. My favorite (as well as the other clinicians in my entire company) are the ResMed machines. The Elite II is a great machine as well as the new S9. They will record compliance, leak, AHI... You honestly wont need all that other junk. The ResMed machines are user friendly and great for travel.
An AHI of 4 indicates that you technically wouldn't have sleep apnea if the hypopneas with less than 3% desats weren't counted. So if you don't want to do CPAP, don't stress about it. Have another sleep study in 5-6 years or with weight gain...
As for the simple answer... Res Med Elite II... If you are private paying for a machine, don't waste your money buying a machine with features you don't need (the auto adjusting mode) because you already paid someone to watch you and determine that stuff...
Does that help? Make sense??? Contact me if it doesn't.

QUESTION:
air force overseas medical clearance?
Hello! I am wondering if anybody has gone through the Air Force Overseas Medical Clearance procedures or knows much about it. My husband is currently in Korea on a one-year remote tour and our follow-on assignment is Ramstein, Germany. (yay!!) We have been waiting for this to happen for many years now, so we are super excited. We have 3 kids, ages 8, 5, and 5 (twins). Basically, what I am asking is about medical clearance. Should I be worried about us getting cleared if we have two boys on medication for ADHD/ADD? They have no IEP, they do amazing at school and are under PCM care. Also, I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea last year due to a small airway and large tonsils! This is not a weight or health issue at all, I am very fit and healthy. I just went in for snoring. I do have a CPAP, but only need it if I want to sleep on my back, which I never do. It actually makes my sleep worse! I do not get the stereotypical apnea symptons, such as sleepiness. I have alot of energy every day! I have had many mixed comments from our base, some saying that these things will not be a problem, some saying it may?? I am totally confused!! I just want to mentally prepare myself for rejection of going overseas after selling a house, getting rid of cars, half of our stuff and getting the kids all hyped up about going to Germany!! When I talk to the base, they said we will know nothing until a couple of months before we leave..I just want a generalized idea!! Thank you!!
We are not on EFMP. I was told by our base that we can't do anything for that until a couple of months before we leave. I think I need to talk to someone at a bigger medical facility who may actually know what they are talking about! We have been told so many different things at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho. First we were told that we would not need EFMP for either of these issues, by a doctor and EFMP person, and then we were told we will when we met with the outprocessing people when my husband outprocessed to go to Korea, but they said not to do anything until we do our medical outprocessing. I just have this awful feeling that our dreams of going overseas are going to be somehow crushed because of some sort of misinformation. Doesn't EFMP basically mean that you can't go overseas, even if the base we are going to has more medical facilities than anywhere we have ever lived?-

QUESTION:
umm what the hell is up with my friend (Details inside)?
Ok, first I am going to point out that she smokes weed. I don't know how often and she did triple C's the whole month of November. I think for New Years, she mixed weed and alcohol together. Now she has the following symptoms. Her and I think she might have been possibly drugged, but some of these symptoms don't quite add up to that. I'm not a doctor, but I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about. Ok her symptoms are:Severe confusion
Incomplete sentences/robbed of speech
When she sleeps, she ends up waking up, because she feels like she is suffocating (she was tested for sleep apnea years ago)
Pain in the ribs, back, neck, head, chest, & shoulders
Consumption of water but still feels dehydrated
Difficulty concentrating
Absence of fever
Stuffy nose
Sporadic stomach cramps
Vertigo
Hot/Cold sweats
Pale
Clammy palms
Shortness of breath
Pain behind the ears and on the back of the neck where the occipital nuchal line of the occiput isShe lives in Beaver Falls, PA and has been to the hospital and they took a chest X-ray for pneumonia and it was negative. I was told they are not a very thorough hospital and don't ask the questions that patients need to be asked to get a more accurate exam. She told me they didn't go all out out for her, because they told her she was high/drunk, but she is not today.
I am not sure what to make of this. I mean obviously she has to stop smoking weed and drinking at all, but that is not going to solve this problem completely.
I told her her best bet is to hop on a bus (since she has no other transportation) and go to a better hospital and demand an explanation for her symptoms and run tests. She said she has no money for the bus. She won't have money until Jan. 4 which isn't too far away. But even in this very minimal amount of time, what could happen between now and then?
What should my friend do or what could my friend do to help her immune system in the best way since she has no vitamins or any food with vitamins in it? What is the best way for her to be comfortable? Keep in mind, she is very overweight and Diabetes runs in her family. Every time she gets tested, it is negative.
PLEASE HELP!!

Is my dog at risk to die?
Hi, My dog ( a dingo/lab mix) is making sounds at night almost like snoring.
I believe she has sleep apnea, but I'm not totally sure. I haven't had her, her whole life so I'm guessing she's about 12..? And I was wondering could she die from this? If she can I wanna go to the Vet and get her put down if they can't do anything because I don't want her to live her last moments in pain, and not being able to breathe very well. Please answer soon,
-Sally's owner.-
ANSWER:
Snoring is nowhere near a sign of death. If she seems to have really abnormal and strange breathing patterns, she should see a vet though.

QUESTION:
30 day juice fasting..?
Okay... I am 5'6' and weight over 160 pounds over what I should be. I am starting to snore in my sleep, having heart flutters, very hard to move around, starting to have sleep apnea (I THINK), and scared to die soon. That is why I desire to juice. I know that juicing will help me naturally and suffeciently. I need to loose weight or I might die from sleep apnea. And I really don't. I desire to have a 30 day of juicing with vegetables and fruits. I have been consumed in my weight for over 4 months now. I've been eating lots and lots of junk food, and is very addicting. And know (from research) that eating raw, and juicing will cure this. Because what I have been eating has an addicting drug in it. (I sometimes wish there were drugs in fruits instead of junk food. But then that wouldn't be healthy either)
Anyways, I just want to know any tips, suggestions, advice, sites, books, cds, etc. And I want to know what you think of me doing this. Is it good, is it bad? BTW, I am new to juicing and eating raw.
I did my best once to just have a balanced eating regime, but it never works for me. I even binge of good food, when I mix veggies with bread and refined stuff.
I have just heard numurous reviews on how juicing and eating raw has helping many, many fat/obese people. And am excited to begin. I am also doing it for spiritual reasons to, get connected to earth, etc.
Also, after I am done with this juicing, I decide to go raw completely. Make raw food cakes, cookies, muffins, etc.
What do you think??? I'M EXCITED!!
(no rude comments please) thankx o
Do not tell me I will die, because that's a lie. I have seen youtube videos of people juicing for 100 days even. So do not say that is "impossible" or anything like that. There is no way you can stop me, but I just wanted you point of view. Just not dyeing. That's preposterous!-
ANSWER:
That is going to be a lot of sugar. This will work great, but your protein will be low so you may need to compensate.

QUESTION:
Please help! I am sick a lot and am in desperate need of answers, please.?
My health started deteriorating at about age 22, I am 28 now. I have seen many doctor’s and specialist and have been given different answers, none of which has helped.
I seem to have a very low immune system and catch everything I come in contact with. I’m washing my hands very often just to try and keep the germs at bay.
On top of this I have these flare up’s with my stomach every other week. I’m calling in a lot to work and I’m a single mother and have to be able to work.
These stomach issues start as a slight burn in my stomach, in the center about 2 inches below where my chest bone ends. This burning gets worse over the next 8-10 hours. Then the diarrhea starts. The diarrhea is severe with cramps. I also have stomach pain that doesn’t feel like cramps, it’s more of a stabbing pain. This pain is one of the worst things I’ve ever had to deal with. The stool comes out watery with yellow/green mucus. (When this particular problem started 5 yrs ago the doctor thought it had to do with getting my gallbladder taken out a year before. He said he thought my intestines were trying to realign and work without the gallbladder. He gave me this can of orange powder that I would mix with water and drink every morning. This made the stool more solid but I would still have the “episodes” just without the diarrhea. The medicine quit working about a year later.)
When these problems occur it almost completely disables me. I have to stay near a bathroom because the diarrhea is so severe. I’ve had many accidents from not being able to get to the bathroom quick enough. The cramps are very painful and I have nausea. Vomiting will present its self about 1/3 of the time these things happen. Every time my body aches like it does when you have the flu. When I’m not in the bathroom I sleep, I literally cannot keep my eyes open. They last for 2-7 days each time. I cannot get out of bed when these things hit me. I have gone to the E.R. several times because of the stomach pain.
I’m currently on Carafate with the doctor thinking I’m overproducing bile but I keep getting sick. I’m sick more often than well lately and it is really dragging me down.
When my health problems started my short term memory got bad but from what I can remember I have been given the following test or treatments;
•Had CT scan of my brain to check for tumors.
•Tested for Lupus, Thyroid checked, blood sugar levels, iron, checked for ulcers.
•Also had a CT scan of my stomach.
•I’ve had a colonoscopy, top & bottom.
•Stomach emptying study.
•I’ve been to an endocrinologist to check all my levels.
•I’ve been told I have a mild case of sleep apnea and have a CPAP machine that didn’t help with anything.
I’ve taken the following medications;
•For the stomach issues I’ve been on several different acid reducers, Carafate, Bentyl, Hyomax, Questrin and I have a supply of phenegrin on me at all times because of the nausea .
•I take Prozac for depression.
•I take Morphine for bone spurs on my spine & get epidural injections every 3 months for these.I’ve been told before that I have fibromyalgia/Chronic fatigue syndrome, I.B.S., a spastic colon, gastritis, really just so many things I can’t even think of.
What can I do? I’m missing out on life because of these health issues. Please, please is there anything else I can do?
Thank you,
Lisa G
Thank you for the post, I really am desperate.
On the hand washing, I've only recently started within the last couple months of the excess hand washing but I've been getting sick like this for yrs now.
I will definitely try the celiac diet. I've started keeping a food log to see if anything inparticular set me off but it is hard to follow a diet when there are so many out there and I'm not sure what's wrong with me, so thanks again. Sunshyne, thank you for the kind words. Very sweet and thoughtful. I wish no one had to suffer with any of this kinda crap. Last & the least, Meredith. I've been rail thin and have had a few extra pounds and my health doesn't change. I sleep a ton but never feel rested or wake refreshed & I'm on several different medications WHICH ARE NOT HELPING, thats why I'm looking for other answers.-
ANSWER:
Try the celiac diseae diet (you can Google it) and see if that works for you. Celiac disease is VERY hard to diagnose but it's worth a shot.

QUESTION:
Is my dog overweight?
She has short hair and is a maltese-poodle mix. She's 9 years old and weighs 15 lbs.My main concern is her breathing. In the past few months, she's started snorting whenever she takes a heavy breath while she's resting (lying on her side). I'm wondering if she has sleep apnea, or if this snorting is caused by her possible chubbiness?
And, if she is overweight, what should I do to fix it?
I can only feel her ribs in a very small section under her shoulder. But, otherwise, I can't feel them when I pet her (even firmly).-
ANSWER:
can you feel her ribs when you run your fingers down her side? and her spine? Does she still have a waist? then no she is not over weight. If you can't, yes she is. Either way the breathing thing should be talked about to your vet.

Green Tea, Coffee, and Wine?
Is too much of these for long periods of time beneficial?Green Tea Benefits:
Lower Cancer Risk: breast, lung, colon, prostate, cervical, ovarian, mesothelioma, esophageal, stomach.
Prevent Heart Disease: lowers cholesterol, prevents artery blockages, lowers blood pressure.
Speed Up Weight Loss: fat blocker, boost metabolism, increase endurance, anti-fatigue.
Protect Brain Function: memory, stroke, Alzheimer's, Parkinsons.
Defend Immune System: flu, salmonella, common cold, HIV-AIDS.
More Health Conditions Improved: including anti-aging, acne, allergies, body odor, sleep apnea, osteoporosis.Coffee Benefits:
Coffee appears to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, heart disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, cirrhosis of the liver, and gout.
Wine Benefits:
According Researcher Serge Renaud and his colleagues from the University of Bordeaux, moderate wine consumption reduces death rate because of all causes by 30%.
Heart related death rates can decrease by 35%. Cancer related deaths can be reduced by 18-24% by wine.Researchers at the University Hospital of Zurich, Switzerland have found out how wine reduces the risks of strokes. According to researchers Dr. Wilhelm Vetter and his colleagues, alcohol present in the wine is beneficial when taken during meal time. It reduces the growth of pathways to the heart called arteries by 20%. Growth in the size of these pathways can cause heart attacks and strokes.
A similar study on the same topic by Israeli researcher Fuhrman and his colleagues found that drinking red wine along with meal reduces a harmful substance called LDL cholesterol by 20%. Rise in this substance indicate higher fat levels in the body.
A Dutch study reports that the same practice of drinking red wine along with meals stops clotting of blood in the pathways to the heart.
Researcher Gary Curhan and his colleagues from Harvard University conducted a study on 81,000 nurses. They wanted to know the impact of different beverages like tea, coffee, fruit juices, wine, water etc on their health. Out of the 17 beverages included in the study, wine was found to reduce the risk of kidney stone formation by 50%. This finding was again confirmed by researcher Curhan and colleagues in 1996 when they found that wine consumption reduces the risks of kidney stone formation by 39%.
A 16 years of research study by Dutch researcher Dr. Thomas Truelsen of Copen-hagen University Hospital, reports that moderate consumption of wine reduces the risks of strokes.
Research study on wine in Italy concluded that light to moderate wine consumption do not allow the build up of fats in the pathways of heart.
A team of researchers from the University of Illinois has found that a compound called resveratrol can stop the growth of cancer cells in humans.
Would having all three of these daily for a long period of time be triple beneficial or would the combination not mix well and be worse for you?

my son is 2.5 Years old and just had his Adenotonsillectomy aswell as grommits in ears, he was done 48 hours ago, and as you could imagine he is sore, he didnt eat hardly at all yesterday and was very hard to get him to take his antibiotics and pain Relief, yesterday when we finally got him to take some nurofen pain relief he ate some ice creams and drank some poppas and even ate a little spaghetti, he then slept all arvo (fair enough i say) he had a fairly good night last night waking occasionally i should mention he suffered from sleep apnea as well, he woke this mornin and seemed okish he would not take medication again and we tried for a couple of hours, we ended up havin to pin him down and force some down, we started with pain relief and let him go for a bit he seemed more relaxed and we tried antibiotics, he was still not keen we also had to force it down, after another ten mins or so he was up and about drinkin runnin and even ate some nutrigrain, sorry im takin this question on too long any ways i worry at times he is not getting enough fluids and he is a bout 2 courses behind in his antibiotics, by any experience is there a good way to "sneak"the medication to them, we using nurofen panadol and the antibiotics, also how do/did you prevent water entering the ears during a shower, we were going too take him back too hosp re lack of medication but now hes happy and had medication i think all should be ok any advise would be greatly appreciated thanks for takin time to read my rediculously long question p.s my spelling and gramma aint that good lol pps, can panadol be mixed with water/juice/cordial cause it say nurofen can and i think its simular, and can antibiotics be diluted in juice/cordial/water im not sure on this one but it all mixes in the guts im sure there is not a compartment for each mouthfull lol thanks again for taking the time to read and answer thanks in advance lol
