Help With Snoring

Namaste yoga comes from the Indian greeting. The word means "I bow to you" and is often used when either greeting someone or when departing.

Namaste yoga is beneficial as is any other kind of yoga. It is based on that Hatha Vinyasa style of yoga, and with this type of yoga, the breath is the guide and the body then follows in time. Yoga is a wonderful exercise, and this kind of yoga is just one of the many different types of yoga that you can choose to participate in. History would relay that this system of healing dated back about three thousand years ago, Namaste yoga is a kind of Thai massage with roots that can be traced back in India.

The tell-tale Namaste yoga pose is to hold the hands in a praying fashion at the heart, and with eyes closed the head is bowed. In addition, the praying hands can start out at the third eye, which is in the center of the forehead. Then while bowing the head, the hands are brought down to the heart. It is often practiced at the end of a session because the mind and body are relaxed and detached. This is also in keeping with the fact that it is a gesture used in saying hello or goodbye.

Generally, the Namaste yoga practice is used in conjunction with other yoga practices. For example, a group could, as a sign of respect, hold the hands to together and bow the head to each other. Then, the group could proceed to do the sun salutation or any other yoga poses. Then, when the session has come to an end, the group again can use the Namaste yoga bow as a conclusion to the class.

I have a tendency to do too much and Namaste yoga is all about relaxing into the poses. The core of Namaste yoga is combined with the principles of Gautama Buddha, a guru from India and the father of Buddhism. The core of Namaste yoga is combined with the principles of Gautama Buddha, a guru from India and the father of Buddhism.

As with any kind of yoga, it should be remembered that it is a way of life, rather than just something you do to stay flexible and in shape. That's not to say that if you are not serious about yoga then you shouldn't do it. Of course, everyone can benefit from it. However, if you are interested in Namaste yoga you are likely not just looking to get in shape. Since properly performing the various yoga positions is difficult, it requires daily practice until you are able to perform with minimal difficulty.

    • ANSWER:
There are lots of reasons why people snore--none of which can be cured quickly.
many people have 'sleep apnea' and need to use a compressed forced breathing machine (called a C-Pap or Bi-Pap).
She may or may not have this.
people who are overweight tend to snore more.
people who sleep on their backs, also tend to snore more.
Anyway--for the trip, i suggest your mom sleep on 2-3 pillows, to prop her up.
Also you can buy her "Breathe Right" nasal strips, which help keep her nasal airways open, so she breathes through her nose while sleeping.
For you--buy some ear plugs. I use them all the time- I have the soft, squishy kind, and they work great.
best wishes to you both and have a nice trip!

  11. QUESTION:
How do I ask my snoring roommate to move out?
I have a classmate that I agreed to be roommate with. At the very beginning she told me that she is a quiet sleeper. The night that she moved in she snored like a tornado. I couldn't sleep for 4 nights that I stayed in the same room with her. I talked to her about it and she started to give me an attitude telling me that I should use a ear plugged to accommodate her. I ended moving into the living room and then to the master bedroom with the other 2 girls. Now she has stayed for 2 weeks. How do I tell her that she needs to move out? She is the last person to move in and she is not a cosignor on the lease. I don't want to be mean but I have tried everything and I'm the only who have tried everything. She didn't do anything, except giving me an attitude. HELP.

    • ANSWER:
well, you agreed to let her move in and moving is a hard thing. maybe she didn't know she was a snorer and when you confronted her, you hurt her feelings and she got defensive. people can not help what they do when they are asleep!!! would you get mad at someone for something they did in your dream? so why get angry at someone who might snore; walk; or talk while they sleep. why don't you calmly talk to her and suggest nose strips or other means for her to help with her snoring? my personality would be to laugh with her about it and joke about the snoring with her(not at her). and to come up with a solution to her snoring. try not to be so harsh with people who can not control what they do when they aren't awake. asking someone to move out just for that reason is very petty on your part and very insensitive. learn to lighten up and get a sense of humor about this SMALL problem!

      * Lose weight

You may find that your snoring persists even after trying these changes. If your snoring results from a more serious cause, a cure may be more complex – but there are solutions. Your nights don’t have to be noisy! Read on to learn more about the possible causes of your snoring as well as treatment options. If you can uncover the cause of your snoring, you should be able to find a cure that is right for you.
      The causes of snoring
Where does the snore sound come from?

Snoring is caused by a narrowing of your airway, either from poor sleep posture or abnormalities of the soft tissues in your throat. A narrow airway gets in the way of smooth breathing and creates the sound of snoring.

People who snore often have too much throat and nasal tissue, or “floppy” tissue that is more prone to vibrate. The position of the tongue can also get in the way of smooth breathing. Evaluating how and when you snore will help you pinpoint whether the cause of your snoring is within your control or not. Enlist your sleep partner or keep a sleep diary to help you determine the possible cause of your snoring
Tip: The way you snore may reveal why you snore!

      If you snore

      * With your mouth closed: a problem with the tongue is probably the culprit
      * With your mouth open: your snoring is likely related to the tissues in your throat
      * Only on your back: your snoring is probably mild – improved sleep habits and lifestyle changes may be effective cures
      * In all sleep positions: your snoring is more severe and may require a more comprehensive treatment

Causes and Risk Factors of Snoring
Causes out of our control Causes within our control

      * Heredity - A narrow throat, a cleft palate, enlarged adenoids and other physical attributes which contribute to snoring can be hereditary.
      * Being middle-aged or beyond - As you age, your throat becomes narrower, and the muscle tone in your throat decreases.
      * Being male - Men have narrower air passages than women and are more likely to snore.
      * Allergies, asthma, a cold, or sinus infections - Blocked airways make inhalation difficult and create a vacuum in the throat, leading to snoring

      * Being overweight or out of shape - Fatty tissue and poor muscle tone contribute to snoring.
      * A history of smoking – Smoking (or exposure to second-hand smoke) relaxes muscles and creates nasal congestion.
      * Alcohol or medications - Alcohol and medications increase muscle relaxation leading to more snoring.
      * Sleeping posture - Sleeping flat on your back allows the flesh of your throat to relax and block the airway.

      Snoring problems and relationships

Snoring can get in the way of a good night’s sleep and a healthy relationship with your spouse or partner. Many couples affected by snoring resort to sleeping in separate bedrooms in order to get a good night’s sleep. This arrangement may help both people sleep better, but it can disrupt communication and intimacy.

Mild snoring that isn't related to sleep apnea responds well to home remedies. Finding a cure for your snoring problem can result in an improved quality of life for you and your loved ones.

I need to know what to do about this snoring problem. I need a good night sleep and wake up in th emorning refreshed.

  16. QUESTION:
What can I do about my snoring problem?
I have already been to the doctor for this and he prescribed a C-pap machine. It really doesn't do me any good, it's uncomfortable, and I didn't notice any change in my energy level. He said there is only 1 other option, which is surgery, but he couldn't be sure it would do any good. Some nights are worse than others, and I'm not the loudest or worst snorer, and I've been told that I stop breathing many times during the night. I am only slightly overweight, about 30 pounds, so I don't think losing weight will help much. Is there any kind of herbal remedy, exercises, or anything else I can do to help with my snoring problem?

    • ANSWER:
There is good news (you can get rid of snoring without operation) and news that may confront you with having to make decisions regarding your present lifestyle.

It is like asking an overweight woman to stop eating calorie rich unhealthy food in order for here to lose weight and rid herself of diet and lifestyle related diseases. Sometimes they prefer surgery. What can you say.
Snoring is caused mostly in those who are overweight. How many pounds is too much, depends on the person, his habits and circumstances. First of all even a few pounds can be enough to get rid of the fat sitting in the sinuses and blocking the passages causing friction thus creating the whistling sound comparable to draft under a wooden door.

Secondly, stop eating before bedtime. The body takes fluids from everywhere it can to digest. Yes also out of the head: and even from the brain, leaving you with dried out air passages, bad dreams and a uncomfortable night. When this happens for many years it impairs the brain in general.
Have your last meal at around 6. Eating something ´wet´ such as a salad later (with fresh vegetables) is fine and drinking lots of water before turning in, is great. Further, get a room humidifier (nothing fancy with filters and stuff) , get a cheapy that uses distilled water. MUST clean it out with vinegar each month though because you don´t want mold to form and get blown into your nostrils. That would create a different problem. Place the humidifier as close to you as possible. If you have pets sleeping in your bedroom, get them into a different room since they take up the best parts of oxygen. Believe it or not leaving you with the left overs which is qualitatively not so pure. Unless of course you can open the window and let fresh air come in.

Choose what is best for you and think twice before you decide on invasive treatment. One of my friends had it done and has never been able to sing again (as good as he used to) and he still snores because what was taken away caused him to also loose the ability to keep the mouth and sinus area wet enough. It also caused a chronic problem with swallowing especially when he has a cold. Remember, most conditions are easily solvable, once we know how. If that ain´t good news. p.s. also no alcohol after dinner since
it dries out tremendously p.s. 2: lose a few pounds - can´t be that hard. p.s.3 try sleeping with your head slightly tilted upwards. p.s.4 Arrange with your partner that she can wake you every time your snoring wakes her. This psychological approach helps you become motivated to really do something about it. This way it becomes a real problem for the both of you (and not only your partner).

How to sleep when somebody is snoring?
Help! It's 2:37 in the morning and i can't go to sleep cuz i'm sharing a room with my frickin sister and she's snoring! ahhh!

    • ANSWER:
      Either:

Stop her from snoring (not going to happen) -- you can wake her or ask her to change positions, but even if she is nice to oblige you, she is likely to fall back asleep and start snoring again before YOU can fall asleep unaided which leads me to

Put in ear plugs (if you have them) -- the earplugs should lessen the amount of noise to the degree that it shouldn't bug you, and you can always add a fan/music to provide "white noise" to mask her snoring... however, you might not have ear plugs, and so that leaves you with

Make her leave the room (hey, sleep is precious, right?) -- if you are mean, or if you are nice, go to another room. maybe the living room couch? This will work as a temporary fix, but then again, we are only talking about tonight, right?

Long term, you need to look at her habits. If she always snores, then it might be a health problem. If she rarely snores, it might just be because she is extra tired tonight or has a cold, etc.

Im loosing sleep because my partner snores and grind his teeth, he's feels so bad and really wants to get help, but he doesn't want to go to the dentist! Is there a natural way to deal with his problems.

    • ANSWER:
Snoring is one of those things that can be a problem for you and the people around you. If you want to stop snoring, it is important to consider the cause and severity of your snoring. Identifying the cause can help you choose the right cure.
It makes sense to try some simple non-invasive treatments first to see if they'll reduce or prevent your snoring.

Here are some of those non-invasive tips to stop the snoring:

      • sleep on your side - there's a higher change of snoring if you lie on your back, and sleeping on your stomach will kill your neck.
      • keep a regular sleep schedule - and make sure you get enough sleep, many people snore only when they are overly tired
      • elevate your head when sleeping - you can increase the angle of your bed by raising the head of the bed or use pillows to your upper body, don't just raise your head that'll put more pressure on your air way and have the opposite effect.
      • avoid alcohol and tranquillizers - they basically cause the muscles of your jaw and throat to relax, increasing your changes of snoring.
      • Treat your allergies - if your nose is stuffy it may force you to breathe through your mouth when sleeping. If your nose is stuffed I recommend using a netie pot, the are incredibly effective, natural and pretty cheap to.
      • buy a mouth guard - mouth guards will keep your jaw muscles from relaxing too much, and prevent snoring. It may not be too attractive to your significant other but it'll help you both get some sleep! :)
      • Lose weight - when you're heavier the extra weight puts pressure on your airway, causing snoring.
      • if you smoke try to stop - smoking damages your respiratory system, which doesn't help in the snoring department

Excessive snoring may also mean you have a more serious problem like sleep apnea.

If you wake up with a headache, are extremely tired during the day, don't feel refreshed when you wake up, have trouble concentrating or a very low attention span, or wake up during the night choking and gasping for breath you should probably see a doctor.

Mild snoring that isn't related to sleep apnea responds well to home remedies. Finding a cure for your snoring problem can result in an improved quality of life for you and your loved ones.

      • sleep on your side - there's a higher chance of snoring if you lie on your back, and sleeping on your stomach will kill your neck.
      • keep a regular sleep schedule - and make sure you get enough sleep, many people snore only when they are overly tired
      • elevate your head when sleeping - you can increase the angle of your bed by raising the head of the bed or use pillows to raise your upper body, don't just raise your head that'll put more pressure on your air way and have the opposite effect.
      • avoid alcohol and tranquillizers - they basically cause the muscles of your jaw and throat to relax, increasing your changes of snoring.
      • Treat your allergies - if your nose is stuffy it may force you to breathe through your mouth when sleeping. If your nose is stuffed I recommend using a neti pot, the are incredibly effective, natural and pretty cheap to.

I recently got married and my husbands snoring is out of control!?
I have slept with him before and I don't remember it being a problem, but now, it's horrible. I have to ask him to let me go to sleep first! Sometimes during the night it wakes me up and he also farts in his sleep.Rolling him over doesn't seem to help at all! Any remedies for these annoying actions-divorce is not an option?!

    • ANSWER:
Time to have a sleep study done he could have more problems than you know like sleep apnea he doesn't have to be fat or out of shape to have it either, a person with sleep apnea stroke chances increase 65%.

  35. QUESTION:
Who has had that tissue removed from their throat to stop snoring?
I would like to know of the experience with the surgery, did it help? How long were you incapacitated?

    • ANSWER:
I had it done several years ago (uvula and soft palate actually burned off). It didn't stop the snoring at all. I even had it done a second time. I wasn't incapacitated as such, but the pain was horrible. I think the pain lasted for a couple of weeks. It felt exactly like a hot poker in my throat.

The snoring stopped for about a month each time I had the procedure. Then it came back just as bad.

This snoreguard has helped me more than anything:

      http://www.britishsnoring.co.uk/shop/mouth_breathing_devices/somni_snoreguard.php?PHPSESSID=7423b9d9c45b41f35308e1e83644f8e8

It takes some getting used to but after a couple of weeks, no problem. Watch the video on that page.

Also, I have a couple of side effects from the surgery: getting strangled and choking easier, and drooling at night. I had never had those things before, especially the drooling. The uvula actually serves a purpose.

  36. QUESTION:
Is there any way to stop a dog with a thick neck from snoring?
I can hear him from the other side of the house!

Moving him into a different position helps... for five minutes.

I understand that is just something related to his breed (SBT) but that doesn't stop it from be annoying!

Is this something I am just going to have to live with?

    • ANSWER:
Have the dog checked for stenotic nares and an elongated soft palate. If your dog have these problems and they are fixed, the snoring will be decreased dramatically.

  37. QUESTION:
    How to reduce snoring?
I snore. Every night. It's in my family and genes and stuff, so I can't do anything about it.
The problem is that whenever I go to sleepovers and stuff with my friends I feel bad because they complain(just as a joke, but still) that they can't sleep because I snore. I also sleep bad usually and I'm almost always congested in the morning. Could these things be related? Is there anything to do to reduce snoring? PLEAse help!
Yeah but even when I sleep on my side i snore

    • ANSWER:
Try using a warm-mist humidifier at night. It worked for me. Many people who snore suffer from undiagnosed allergies. The humidifier will a least ease your breathing and reduce snoring. Whatever you do to stop snoring, its worth it. Snoring has been linked to a 67% increased risk of stroke

  38. QUESTION:
How can I get my husband to stop snoring?
My husband is a former smoker (he hasn't had a ciggie in 5 months) and he is chronically stuffy. He snores incredibly loudly, and it keeps me from falling asleep - and being a stay-home mom to a 2yr old boy, sleep is a necessity. I hit him, tell him to "shh!", roll him over (which isn't easy since he's overweight), kick him...none of it helps for longer than two minutes. What products have helped for anyone out there with the same problem?

    • ANSWER:
If he is sleeping with his back on the bed, try to convince him to sleep sideways. When you're facing upwards, the tissue falls into your throat in a way that causes snoring. This easily the single most effective, immediate solution.

Also, a healthy person is less likely to snore. There are plenty studies to show that those who eat and exercise well are less likely to snore.

Finally, part of it could just be innate. There's a chance there's just nothing you can do about it.

  39. QUESTION:
    How could I stop snoring?
I have read a little about "treatments", but curious to any opinions on here. I've read to quit smoking- done. Loose weight- but I'm not heavy. I have pretty bad allergies which more than likely causes the snoring. My mate just started wearing earplugs. While we can joke about it and are dealing with each other's snoring, we'd like to see what action could be taken. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
You can go to an ENT (Ear,Nose,Throat) specialist and have your airways, throat and nose ways looked at. My daughter snored terribly and breathed through her mouth while asleep. She had her adnoids and tonsils removed and has not snored since. It could be from air obstuction in those areas. Other than that I find people snore heavily when they go to bed overly exhausted or after drinking?

HELP! My Husband Snores SUPER loud! Is there anything, med or a trick that can make him stop snoring?
My husband snores so loud I sometimes think he will swallow the drapes! It is super loud and I just can't put up with it anymore because now we have a baby and the baby wakes up with his loud snoring.
Can someone tell me what I can do, a trick or something? Is there a medication?
Those breath right strips don't work! He doesn't like the feeling of it on his face! :(

    • ANSWER:
There are lots of little things that he could do to prevent your snoring.

Try to develop a regular sleeping pattern

Avoid alcohol and heavy meals before going to sleep

      Try sleeping on his side

If he is overweight, losing weight would help

There are numerous surgeries that he could have done, but those are also very pricey. If those minor adjustments don't help, I would suggest maybe trying a snoring product before going with surgery. There are numerous products on the market that offer money back guarantees. My wife use to snore horribly and I bought her the My Snoring Solution jaw support and that worked wonders.

  47. QUESTION:
Is There a Cure for snoring?
I have to share a room with my mom when we go to the islands on vacation for 7 days. At home her snores can be heard throughout the house(on all 3 levels) So I cannot imagine what it will be like to sleep in the same room. Is there anything that cures snoring (even temporarily)? I love my mom and everything but somethings gotta
give. Thanks for all the help.

    • ANSWER:
The following tips will hopefully give you relief with your mom snoring problems :

      1. Elevate your head by sleeping on a thicker pillow or multiple pillows will help reduce your snoring.

      2. Don't drink alcoholic beverages, take sleeping pills, tranquilizers, or antihistamines right before going to sleep, they will cause your muscles to relax and limit your air passage way.

      3. Avoid dairy products, which can cause mucus build-up right before you go to sleep.

      4. If you are overweight, losing some weight will reduce snoring by increasing the space in your air passage way.

      5. Sleeping on your side instead of your back will help to prevent snoring.

      6. A common remedy to prevent sleeping on your back is to sew a tennis ball to the back of your shirt; the discomfort of sleeping on the ball will prevent you from staying on your back.

      7. Try following a regular sleep routine.

      8. Try taking in a little bit of honey before sleeping.

      9. Don't eat a big meal right before bed, if your stomach is full it will push up on your diaphragm and limit breathing passage ways.

      10. Avoid eating "rich" foods such as cakes, cookies, chocolate and pizza.

      11. Sleep on a firmer pillow, a pillow that's too soft encourages your throat muscles to relax and narrows your air passageway.

      12. Inhale steam before sleeping or sleep in a room with a humidifier turned on, which will reduce congestion and moisturize the throat.

      13. Purchase some nasal strips and put them on before going to sleep. Nasal strips will open up your nostrils and allow more air to come in, thus reduce snoring.

      14. f you are a smoker, stop smoking, if that is not feasible then avoid smoking right before you go to bed. Smoking causes inflammation and swelling of the throat.

      15. Take anti-snoring pills or use anti-snoring nasal spray.

      16. Consult a medical profesional if your snoring continues to adversely affect your sleep.

  48. QUESTION:
    How to deal with snoring?
I am a very light sleeper and my husband snores quite badly. I've tried ear plugs but find them very uncomfortable and I also like to listen to relaxing music when going to sleep. We usually spend quite a few nights sleeping in separate rooms. Can anyone help? We don't want to go on like this, and we have tried every over the counter relief but to not avail. I would love to find a solution that works!!!!

    • ANSWER:
is he over weight and does he smoke, i snore and was told by my doc to loose weight and give up smoking as a specialist would not even look at me until i had lost weight and given up smoking, if it is really loud then it is most probably in the throat where the soft palate collapses when you are relaxed this causes the vibration which we hear as snoring or i could be that the bottom jaw is falling back while asleep, does he have a big overbite, with the jaws closed is there more than a 6mm overlap between top teeth and bottom teeth, if yes then i would suggest trying a mandibular advancement device,(MAD) , they are a bit like a gum shield used for rugby/american football, they are moulded to the wearers teeth and pull the bottom jaw forward in line with the top jaw.
